Cradlepoint has officially released firmware version 2.5.2 for the CTR350/PHS300.

The biggest thing this new version provides is support for the U301 for the PHS300. Other new modems that are now supported include:

# Pantech UMW190 for Verizon
# Pantech UM185 for Cricket
# Sierra Wireless 305 USB (AKA "Lightning") for AT&T
# Sierra Wireless 306 USB for AT&T and Telus
# Ubee PXU1900 for CLEAR (PHS300 only)
# ZTE MF668 for Rogers

(remember, since the CTR350 is a 3G-only router and always will be, the 4G devices (like the U301) that this release provides support for will NOT work on the CTR350.)

The new firmware also provides bug fixes, such as solving the Blackberry compatibility issues that have been plaguing users since RIM released their OS 5.0, and a couple new features, including "Agressive Modem Reset" and "Connection Verify"

I notice that periodically my CTR350 loses connection with the modem. (The USB light is out). I have to manually unplug/replug the router. Will this firmware revision correct this? I don't like to upgrade firmware unless I have to.

I like the sounds of:

# "Agressive Modem Reset" causes the router to attempt various reset techniques to attempt to re-establish connection if the modem becomes unresponsive

# "Connection Verify" causes the router to periodically verify that the modem is still connected to the internet; if it's not, it will reestablish the connection

But I am also reluctant to upgrade the firmware, unless I really have to.

Is there a way to save the firmware I have now, so that I can reinstall it later, if I have problems after installing the latest ?

Never mind.

I found a page where I can download any of the firmware versions for my ctr350.

http://www.cradlepoint.com/support/ctr350

I'll simply save the version I have now, off of that page, before I download and install the latest.

Thank you for the heads up about the new version.

Use an Ethernet cable and do not attempt a firmware update via a wireless connection. Note .. IMPORTANT --> Upgrading to this firmware release will cause a factory reset from the previous firmware. Be sure to save your configuration settings (Tools -> Admin menu) BEFORE loading this new firmware and then restore your configuration afterwards if necessary.

I updated last night to the 2.5.2

I do have ethernet cable from the router to the computer.

I did save my configuration settings, because the last time I upgraded, it did reset to factory defaults.

But... It did not reset to factory defaults, this time.

If I upgraded again, I'd still save the config, just in case, though...

I did go into >modem >settings >Global Connection Settings, and make sure that "Aggressive modem reset", was enabled.

"Verify connection" was not enabled. I enabled that, and changed the timeout to 30 seconds.

So far, so good. Connection isnn't any faster, but does seem more stable. (The better of the two alternatives, if I had to choose.)

Let's give it some time before declaring a roaring success, though. LOL

To add to this, if you do enable the "Verify Connection", also check "Enable Ping On Idle.

In the field below that, put: 8.8.8.8

This should get everything working.

I bought a PHS300 today to see how well it worked with my U301.

It's connected, but it will not connect at 4G. The top light on the modem flashes Green (3G is avail) and the bottom light flashed Red.. not sure what that means.

If I plug my u301 into the laptop, it will flash blue, and be connected at 4G.

So far not so impressed. It's connected, but multiple speed tests yield dog slow 3G speeds (.52 Mpbs down .25 Mpbs up).

Anyone have any ideas?

Did you buy your PHS300 from 3Gstore? If so, give tech support a call - they'll be happy to help you get set up!

Did you upgrade the flash? If you just bought it today it probably won't come with the latest firmware.

Also, make sure to configure the authentication realm under modem settings for your 4G provider (sprint, clear, etc.)

Where you at? Fry's near Chicago (Downers Grove) only has v1.1 hardware on the PHS300 - so no 4G. If box lost, look under battery for hw version. You may need to return it. I pointed this out to the sales guy just last Sunday. Then he pointed to a "last one" MBR1000 for $130. I said "mine"... Until I saw Newegg yesterday. Doh!

Anyone else seeing that v2.5.2 doesn't actually fix the issues with Blackberry OS v5.0 devices? I just posted some details on the sticky thread that says the OS v5.0 issues were resolved here. Am I the only one still having problems?

I'm using a CTR350 with firmware v2.5.2 and a Blackberry Bold 9000 on AT&T using OS v5.0.0.509.

Am I alone with these problems or is someone else still having issues as well?

Thanks!
