Ok, first of all, I am on a novatel usb760, with Verizon.
For the past week, if I have been connected at all, it has ONLY been the usb modem connected to the computer via a usb cable.
I just checked my data useage with Verizonwireless.
Just looking for whatever jumped out...
The first thing to jump out was data useage of 171 megs, yesterday afternoon, around three pm. (And several others that averaged around 19 megs apiece.)
I didn't remember any such download. So, I did a search of my entire computer.
I do NOT HAVE any files that equal 171 megs, (or anywhere near it), on my computer... that were placed there between the 13th, and today, (the 15th.).
There is no wifi capability with this thing, so no one was sitting outside, downloading.
No one has been in my house, but me, since last tuesday. And I know this, because I have not been outside it...
So just what body part is Verizon pulling that data useage info out of ???
Something else strange... This is a modem. NOT a phone. Yet it shows that I have 4 minutes 'peak airtime' useage as a phone.
What the heck ? |

Did you ever call Verizon to complain / get more info (especially the 4 mins of peak airtime)?
Sounds like Verizon may have the wrong plan associated with your line of service. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Hi Michael.
I have asked them about this, and so far, no response. |

Not defending verizon but a little inside info, The cell towers have up to 30 days to relay usage information to the carrier for billing purposes. If a provider has a roaming agreement with other carriers and your traveling or even stationary but connecting to a different tower you can expect a delay on your usage.
It is also possible that something is wrong with the account.
Either way I would contact them. |

| It's possible your computer was set to automatically download windows or other 3rd party updates, they could easily add up to 170 megs. The peak air time issue is a strange one. |

My computer is stationary. On my desk, in my home.
The modem is hooked to an omni antenna and ctr350 router. All that is permanent and stationary, as well.
There is only one tower that I receive a signal from.
It is impossible to receive a signal from any other tower. |

There is absolutely nothing on my computer that is allowed to auto-update.
Nothing is even allowed to automatically CHECK for updates.
I am a stickler about that. |

Are you sure no one else was connecting to the router? Do you have it password-protected? |

The router is pasword protected.
But at the time in question, that is moot.
The modem was connected directly to the computer. Bypassing the router.
Either there is something wrong with the account on Verizon's side, or someone has managed to use the account from another location/device.
My money is on the account being screwed up on Verizon's side.
Nothing heinous. Just a screwup on their part. |

You can have a virus that goes online without you knowing it |

| It would be impossible for anyone to use your account if your device was connected directly to your computer, as your service is tied directly to the ESN on your device. |

Ergo: There must be a glitch on Verizon's end.
