I have read numerous articles about the Verizon MiFi 2200 not having an external antenna port but guess what. I got my MiFi about 3 weeks ago and the are not one but TWO EXTERNAL ANTENNA PORTS on the back! I'm not complaining of course as long as I can find an adapter cable to connect to the roof mount antenna on my RV. Any one else noticed this??? Laughing

Verizon or Sprint, and did you buy it online or in a store, etc?

Verizon (I just edited the post, sorry) and I bought it locally at a Verizon Wireless dealer.

Interesting... any chance you could post some photos for us, I'm going to the local Verizon store first chance I get to check this out. If this is indeed an option now I'm going to be making the MiFi switch in no time, that has been the main thing stopping me.

All MiFi's have those (just have to remove the little rubber stoppers).

We discovered those back in May of last year and here is the official response from Novatel:

Quote:
These are factory test connectors that are not suitable for the end user due to reliability issues. That’s why there is a rubber plug on each of them.

and....

We did make the choice not to put a user accessible external jack like our other products because with MiFi you can move it to a location that has better reception while using it.

BTW, the type of connector that is on there, is not meant for constant plugging and unplugging, it is unlike any other connector that is user accessible.

Well that certainly was disheartening! I guess it was too good to be true. It's interesting thoough that the plugs don't show up on any of the photos in the user guide or manual. How to I post a photo? Rolling Eyes

You can see the unusable ports here:

For the sake of your MiFi, do NOT try shoving any antenna connectors in there! We have confirmed in our testing AND with Novatel that these are NOT actually antenna ports Sad

If you need to boost your Sprint/Verizon signal to your MiFi, check out this article.

If you need to extend the signal for far less than the antenna setups in the link , you can buy a Credlepoint router and just tether the MiFi.

I have a CRT350 that works great for this... and I can power it with my handy Tekkeon TekCharge MP1800CP... both from 3Gstore.com, of course!

I also have a small wireless Brother laser printer that is connected to the CTR350, so I can just grab the router and printer, and have a portable network to go.

It must be nice to be the only choice for consumers. That way when you make a decision to not make an external antenna an option or available for your MiFi 2200 you can just say for the consumer to move their MiFi to a spot with better reception. Hum, I will only have to move my home about a mile or so......Sounds reasonable. I guess every review I have ever read about the MiFi being great with the exception of not having an external antenna port are just missing the point.

johnnybnova, you CAN boost the signal to your MiFi - you just can't connect an antenna directly to it. You can use a wireless repeater to boost the signal, though. Check out this article: Boosting Your MiFi's Signal

I understand the option of getting a signal booster. I also understand that with my old air card I bought a wilson antenna with adapter for about $50 total and solved the low signal strength available at my home. I"m only suggesting that not everyone has the extra $$$$ to spend on a signal booster. I would be very happy if I just had to purchase a new antenna adapter for $10 instead of a "system" for many hundred. Guess I'm just cheap...probably because I haven't received my TARP bailout yet

We wish the MiFi had an external antenna port as well - it would make things MUCH easier for those in signal challenged areas. We still don't get the vendors that don't understand how important this feature is.
