Seems my previous post wasn't drawing any attention so now that I've had time to do some more research my new question is..
What is the best gain, 800-900 mhz band omni antenna out there? And what would be a good booster/amp for this?
I am running a UM175 w/vzw broadband. |

Do you know which frequency Verizon uses in your area? They use 800 & 1900Mhz frequencies, it just depends which area your in.
You can check the frequency for your area by opening Field Test Mode in VZAccess Manager. See our Tip of The Week for Using Field Test Mode for more info! Be sure to check the "Band Class' under HDR, and not CDMA. As HDR = EVDO/Broadband Access Rev-A. CDMA = 1xRTT/National Access |

Roamer, keep in mind that Verizon uses both the 800 & 1900Mhz and often switch between the two - a single band solution may not be the best choice (even if they're using the 800mhz frequency where you're at right now).
Are you trying to boost the signal to your UM175 in one location or is this for traveling? |

The Bayfield Bunch, keep in mind that an antenna or amplifier can only work if there is signal available to access or boost. If you are in an area where there is no better signal available for miles, there may be nothing an antenna or amp can do - it can't create signal out of nothing.
Next time you're in that location, do a site survey (see http://3gstore.com/rssi). Mark down your RSSI and speedtest.net results with and without the antenna. Then drive in the direction of better signal until you find a spot with a solid -80 RSSI, and do another speedtest. Let us know how far away you had to go to get the -80 and what your speeds where there, and we'll help you determine if an amplifier will help you. |
