|

Sprint EVDO went live in my office today (yippee!). 3 bars EVDO signal.
I did a speed test of the PPC6700 at http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed
167 kbit/ sec - EVDO
116 kbit/ sec - EVDO
351 kbit/ sec - EVDO
Not really up to EVDO speeds of 400K - 700K, BUT EVDO might be undergoing deployment right now (EVDO wasn't here yesterday). So, I will test in a few days/weeks.
Next, I enabled WiFi on the PPC-6700 and did the same benchmark. I am on a T1 line, I should be getting 1.1 - 1.2mb download speeds (I do from my desktop when I test).
286 Kbit / sec - T1
589 Kbit / sec - T1
390 kbit/sec - T1
These speeds concern me. Is WiFi throttled back in the PPC6700? Again, these speeds are very good for most email, web, etc., but I wonder why it isn't faster.
The WiFi access point is 4 feet from my PPC6700, so it isn't a range issue.

How's the performance if outside? If about the same, then it's probably the tower still being tuned or the unit itself. Do you have a Sprint PC Card to test?
The slow WiFi is strange. Is the unit slow overall? Maybe you have many apps running at once, eating the memory, slowing everything down. Also try soft resetting the phone. You could also try doing the test via USB to laptop and using the laptop's broadband connection via ActiveSync. If under 1Mb/sec, there is probably something up with your phone. |

Through my Merlin S620 card I am getting 600 - 750K download speeds.
I am still getting slower speeds on the PPC6700, but that doesn't concern me as much as does WiFi. I did a soft reset and I am getting the same results when hooked up via WiFi (a T1), on my desktop, I get 1178K download. When hooking up the PPC6700 through the same network via WiFi, I get 250K - 589K. I should clearly get closer to 1100K.
Anyone else care to test and report the results.
I am doing tests at:

| I've gotten up to 800K-1MB/sec with EVDO and consistently 1+MB/sec with WiFi. I have noticed that the 6700 EVDO radio seems to be more sensitive to obstruction than a laptop card. In my office building, the tower is to the West. If I test on the W side of building, I get 800K-1Mb on 6700 and over 1Mb on S620 card. If testing on the E side, I get 400-500K on 6700 and 700-800K on S620 card. |

When I went to DSLReports I got a message that DSLReports couldn't run the test because my browser didn't support Java. Since I just got my PPC6700 yesterday, I haven't had time to find and install necessary utilities.
I'd love to test and post my speeds. Any recommendations on how to best resolve the java issue? |
