Interesting... I had tried them a little while ago too as they seemed to be the best bet. I got a slightly different reply:

Thank you for the input! I know a few of our users are looking for this. I can tell you we do not have immediate plans for such a feature.

Hope this helps

Mmmm, I am awaiting an answer on projected release date for this feature, but have not heard back yet. Will keep you posted.

Okay, I have the latest update from Pocketmac re: EVDO and Blackberry tethering.....they are working on implementing the feature, below is their reply to me:

Quote:
Hello,

We are working very closely with RIM to code this feature in an upcoming release. I do not have an exact release date, but I can tell you that we are working on it.

We need to test the driver with an array of BlackBerry devices to ensure compatibility and functionality. We will notify all of our BlackBerry users when this update is ready for download. If you are not a customer, I would recommend visiting our website periodically for our most recent updates.

Thank you very much and have a great day!

Please tell me that someone is going to fix this problem soon!! My Powerbook and Blackberry love each other through PocketMac-- I am losing my mind over not being able to use said BB as a tethered modem. Verizon's solution is to buy a card, activate another number, and pay for more unlimited data. Brilliant, huh! With no apologies!

Well, mine's being returned tomorrow. Verizon/RIM/IAA have lost a sale. The _complete_ lack of support from any of the three is extremely disappointing.

IAA's response was just the worst. It was just a terse:
Quote:
I'm sorry, PocketMac for BlackBerry does not support that.

Speaks volumes to where their priorities really lie. Keep up the good work holding their feet to the fire.

The purpose I started this thread, was to make it easy for Mac users to get accurate/up to date answers on tethering the 7130e with their Mac (if you search Google for "7130e Mac", this thread comes up #1 & #2.

Hopefully, it will help a few users (who need tethering) with the 7130e + PowerBook / MacBook, realize that many before have tried and waited and that it isn't a solution that works.

Well, I, for one, greatly appreciate this thread, since it probably saved me a good 3+ hours of messing around with the 7130e and the laptop... Thank you...

Fortunately, I'm not paying for the BB (work is), so I have the luxury to wait it out... However, it does make me think twice about the operating system of my next laptop... As much as I've enjoyed my G4 Powerbook, it's going to be incredibly difficult to justify getting a Powerbook when I can get a WinXP laptop with tethered EV-DO...

Yes, thanks very much for keeping this thread updated. I am in the same boat as many of you apparently...they just bought us a bunch of 7250's at work, and I'm the lone Mac guy. I've been able to ge tethering to work on my PC, but no luck with the Mac. If PocketMac is someday able to provide tethering capability, I'll gladly pay $30 for it.

If you really want the best of both worlds, seems like a MacBook/MacBook Pro running BootCamp, is the way to go. You can boot your MacBook under Windows XP and be able to tether.

Sprint officially announced the Blackberry 7130e today, see:

Sprint Announces Blackberry 7130e Press Release

One of the features in the press release is Phone-as-modem capability. Now, Sprint doesn't have a track record of supporting Mac, so, llets hope they have modified the 7130e to be recognized for Mac users. If anyone gets a 7130e, you an easily test this by selecting:

Plugging in your 7130e via USB -> Apple Menu -> System Preferences -> Network

If a new port is detected, it will be possible to use the "Phone as a modem" to your Mac.

If anyone gets a Sprint 7130e and can try the above, please post the results to this thread.

A blogger has set up a bounty to tether an 8700 with a Mac (running OS X). Lessons learned from this exercise could aid in tethering a 7130e (Verizon or Sprint) with a Mac.

I found this chart showing the VZAccess Manager versions for windows and mac:

http://www.vzam.net/

I find it interesting that they have a mac version for the Razr, but not blackberry, probably because so many more people have razrs. I bet there are more blakcberry users than razr users willing to pay for tethering, though.

I've let VZW know that I want to get the tethering option but can't until they come out with a mac driver for my 7130e - the only way VZW will do it is if they thing it's cost effective, so the more of us call in and ask for it, the more likely they'll release a driver. VZW is clearly supporting macs for other phones and cards, so hopefully the're already working on one for us BB folks.

Michael,
I just received my new 7130e and when I plug it in USB on my powerbook, my network configuration recognizes a new port as "Blackberry"... any suggestions from here???

I read that you can use this as a Mac USB modem driver:
