But isn't that driver only created for Palms?

Here's another possibility:

A blogger has set up a bounty to tether an 8700 with a Mac (running OS X). Lessons learned from this exercise could aid in tethering a 7130e (Verizon or Sprint) with a Mac.

Check out the developers who seem closest to winning this bounty and developing the software to tether BB's to macs. They're asking for people's input on what to include in their programming, so if you have ideas/desires, send it to them: http://mobishark.blogspot.com/

I have a PowerBook G4, and a BB 7130e.

A couple of months ago, I did actually get the tethered modem to work via usb by using a PC emulator called "Guest PC" and Windows XP.

I didn't think it was worth reporting at the time because:
1) It is obviously a clumsy "solution"
2) It required some fiddling around with, and disabling usb drivers (including uninstalling pocketmac), so that the GuestPC driver didn't conflict with other drivers.
3) The connection speed was SLOW.
4) It caused my powerbook to crash now and then (seemed to be related to when I was unloading and loading usb drivers).
5) I figured that it would just be a matter of time until a better, more elegant solution would emerge.

I naively trusted IAA (the pocketmac people) that their next version would provide a tethering option, but doing some reading on the web, it looks like they have a history of promising things (e.g. an app loader), and not coming through.

Since it doesn't seem likely, at this point, that an ideal solution will appear, I thought I would at least report some limited success with this workaround. Perhaps someone could figure out how to use this method more effectively, and reliably (e.g. I think because I didn't know what I was doing with respect to the usb drivers, this caused instability, and I didn't have the patience to figure out why the connection was so slow.)

I read that you can use this as a Mac USB modem driver:

This won't work. It is nothing more than a prc file installable on the Treo.

Verizon teams up with SmithMicro to produce their VZWAccess Manager. Smith has their own product called QuickLink® Mobile Mac 3.0. http://www.smithmicro.com/default.tpl?group=product_full&sku=QLMMAKEE

Although the RIM products are not currently supported, if you go here

http://www.smithmicro.com/default.tpl?group=phonerequest&prod=QLMMAC&sku=QLMMAKEE

you can enter a request for product support. They say the squeakiest wheel gets the oil first, so the more people who can put in requests, the closer to the front of the development line BlackBerry products can go.

Lack of tethering is keeping me from geting a BB thru VZW.....
