|
|
I'm in a rural area, I need pc#1 located where it can get a proper cellular signal and have it provide Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to pc#2 over an 802.11g wireless LAN. I have the USB760 (Bell Canada) and two D-Link DWA160 wireless adapters. I've had some success, pc#2 does show an 'Internet Gateway' connection to the USB760 but I can't get Firefox to use that connection. Possibly because pc#2 also has a dial up connection, but I can't get rid of that, it's backup for nasty weather days when the USB760 may not connect to Bell. The wireless part works for moving files between the pcs. I'm new to this so be kind and provide enough detail,
thanks

Are you using ICS with a router? _________________ evdo-tips.com |

No, I only have the U760 in one PC and I want to share that connection with a second PC using D-Link 802.11 wireless adapters to connect the PCs.
I'm probably going to buy the MBR1000 router, that way I can connect a third PC using ethernet and the first two PCs would keep the wireless adapters. But until I buy the router I'm trying but getting part way only. Right now I can see the "Internet Gateway" which is supposed to be shared by the second PC but that's all, I can't connect through the wireless to the U760 connection (which is configured for ICS). I've tried all the tips from MS however the tips assume that I set up the wireless network per XP. The D-Link adapters in an ad hoc mode don't seem to like the MS way, but then maybe MS doesn't like the D-Link way so it's a Catch22 situation.
Maybe different adapters would work with MS, I don't have the money or inclination to start testing that possibility. So I'm looking for some help in case someone else has managed to get this config to work.

Have you run the network setup wizard on pc#2 yet?
It should find the Gateway and configure pc#2 network for access. |

Well your question led me to find the Network Connection Wizard and eventually I succeeded in getting it working. I feel so stupid because it was so easy, I just didn't know where to start until you showed the way.
Thank you so much,
