I am a "from Alltel to Verizon" customer, effective Oct. 18, 2009. I have been pretty satisfied with my service, signal, etc - at least until yesterday when my signal went from RA to 1x. I changed the PRL to Alltel's latest (40057), but still getting 1x. Actually, as soon as I changed the PRL, my signal was RA for about 2 seconds. Since the 1x happened yesterday - and has been consistently at 1x since yesterday - is it possible there is an issue with a tower and I should wait it out?

I'm also wondering...should I use Verizon's latest PRL instead of Alltel's, or does it not matter? Should I continue to use Alltel's Quicklink Mobile to connect or use Verizon's (I forget what it is called) ?

Thanks.

I have experienced EXACTLY the same problem but mine started on November 15th and continues to the present. I can no longer access the RevA signal, just getting 1x. I have called Verizon two times and have had 2 trouble tickets set up. I think it has to do with the PRL that is on my air card (40055 - Alltel's). I read somewhere that a person with similar problem got a hybrid prl of 65053 and that solved the problem Anyone know where to get this hybrid prl and how to install it???

BTW, I am located in Harrison, MI, just North of Clare. Where are you?

I am in Grass Lake, MI - a bit south of Lansing. Sure hope someone can answer my questions. This is so frustrating.

Make sure you call Verizon and complain. Have them set up a trouble ticket so that they know there is a problem.

I think my problem has been resolved. I called Verizon Friday and they had me go through the usual "remove the device, reboot, try this, try that..." routine. After about 15 minutes, I was elevated to the next level of tech. support, who told me they would "push the PRL through as it is not registering on my device, and I should leave my device connected for 24 hours". After 24 hours, and no signal improvement, I read a post where someone mentioned it took 48 hours before they got a better signal. So...I figured I'd give it another day.

Earlier today (about 43 hours into my wait) I got too anxious to wait any longer and decided to drive my laptop and modem up to the two towers near my home. The one that I long suspected was a Verizon tower gave me a 1x reading, with pitiful speeds per speedtest.net - even while sitting about 150 feet from the tower. As I drove East, I got RA and decent speeds. As I neared the next tower (about 1 mile away from the first) I was consistently getting DO and pretty good speeds. Coming back home, following the same route but on the side road about 500 feet further away from the tower, my modem went from the DO to RA as we neared the 'Verizon' tower. Since then, I have been enjoying decent speeds on RA.

So, it seems to me that my modem needed a kick in the pants to pick up the RA signal. That's the only explanation I can come up with. I highly doubt it was anything Verizon actually did. Then again...I could be wrong. Just as long as I get what I am paying for, I am happy. Now I can try my new router.

My issue, too, just got automatically resolved. I did nothing, no change of my prl, no call from Verizon. After my second trouble report after about a day and a half, my RevA came back. It's not super speedy but definitely back to normal. I'm sure they did something at their end and I'm happy. Thanks for all your responses. Hope this will help someone else — the answer is to be persistent and keep calling Verizon until they fix it.

I take my last post back! My problems have returned once again. I called Verizon one more time to find out they had my return number recorded incorrectly. Now, maybe I will get the call I've been waiting for from the advanced tech person (always hopeful). Will post here with any results I get.

I'm back to REALLY slow speeds from 1x only...

Bah, humbug!!!

I too live in Grass Lake, I am having the same problem, only connecting at 1X.
I took my card into the Verizon store in Jackson, the nice man there told me to change the SID of my card from 244 to 21. After doing that I had no change, so I sent an e-mail to verizon, and got a phone call later that night. It was deduced that the PRL on my card was very out of date (30049) and that a firmware update would be sent, and I need to leave the card connected for 48 hours. A week and a half later, nothing...

What tower did you drive by? Is it the one that you can see driving towards ann arbor from Jackson on 1-94?

No, the tower I drove to us up here in Harrison, MI. I had perfect connection and download speeds right by the tower. I finally called Verizon one more time (after NO call backs from them, as promised) and was told that my area is going through the conversion which is causing the slow speeds. We will be traveling to Florida in a week for 3 months and I'm sure I will be able to use my card effectively down there. When we get back if the supposed "conversion" does not result in back-to-normal speeds I will have to look into another internet provider (perhaps a different Sprint Reseller).
