Hey folks,

I've apparently toasted 2 v740 cards in the last month. Primary symptom is the age-old error 691 (Access denied due to invalid username/password on domain). Working with Verizon suppport, we determined that in both cases, the programming had been completely wiped out, and even after manually reprogramming, the cards would no longer "accept updated DMU keys"--rendering them useless.

The only thing that I can point to is that I also occasionally use a Sprint 598U and the Sprint access software on the same box. With the first v740 card, I vaguely suspected that there might be a problem with peaceful coexistence, but with the replacement v740, I can definitely say that it activated and was working fine until I installed/used the Sprint Software/Card. (just to be clear, I wasn't using the v740 with the sprint software, or the 598U with the vzaccess--they're just installed on the same machine.

I used to have a v620 card, it worked just fine--didn't seem to care that the sprint software/card was on the same machine. Heck, I even used them simultaneously at times).

Anyway, I'm wondering if any of you have heard of a situation where a competitor's card software would inadvertantly affect a card to the point of rendering it incapable of accepting DMU updates? And...might there be some nifty way to get the card working again?

Unlikely that is the problem.

We have computers at our warehouse that are used to activate all sorts of Verizon and Sprint cards and they work fine.

Any other thoughts on what might be happening? In both cases, I've worked my way through a couple of tech support levels, and it seemd like they were trying the same tricks--checking the programming, reprogramming both manually, manually activating, etc. I think they both logged into the access point (forgive my terminology) to watch exactly what was going on, and both concluded that both cards were refusing DMU updates, and sending a terminate signal. At that point, they gave up both times--assuming that the card was toasted.

Lenova T400, X61, and HP Elitebook 8730w. The Lenovo's have XP sp3, and are my primary boxes. HP has WIn 7, but we can ignore that. Adapters are the Verizon v740 (Novatel Wireless Merlin CDMA EV-DO), and the Sprint is a Sierra Wireless 598U.
