What I want to do is wirelessly send music to a pair of speakers in another part of the house from my mac. Then I want to control itunes using the remote application on my itouch. I have an airport express which does exactly this. Only problem is that it won't connect to the verizon network/mifi. I can create a new network for the airport express, but then I am disconnected to the verizon network. So this will not work for me. The airport express needs to be on the same network as the verizon mifi. I called apple and they told me the airport express and the mifi wouldn't work together. But she walked me through the steps anyway. No dice. The airport express works just fine because I was able to use it on it's own network. So the issue is with the mifi or with the network. Does anyone know how to get around this?

This should work. First use the mifi admin tool - 192.168.1.1 to change the network name/ssid to something new like "stefan" then change the password. Note what type of security your mifi is using ie wpa or wpa2. Second launch airport utility and find your APE and go to manual setup and then to wireless. Change Wireless Mode to Join a Wireless Network, type the exact name you used on the mifi for it's ssid in the APE Wireless Network Name, make sure the channel is different then the mifi channel, Set Wireless Security to same type on mifi, type same password as mifi. This should trick the APE and your mac into thinking there is only one network and you should not have to switch back and forth to play music and go online. Let me know if it works.

Stefan,

Seeing the Mifi is a portable device, I am sure your application is two fold here. You are looking to have internet access when mobile and once you return home your looking for that same device to more or less be your home router, correct?

Is there ever a time where the network would need to be in place at your home regardless if the MiFi was present? If so, stay tuned;-)....

I followed your instructions and it now works. Thanks a lot. Computers sure are picky.
