what effect does pushing signal meter button vs. not pushing it have on signal strength meter?

the button activates teh meter LED's on the PHS giving you a phyical view on the device itself instead of in the web GUI.

It has not effect, the button was useful on the older modems with previous versions of firmware that did not allow the LED to display signal automatic, however current modems display it automatic now.
