|
|
Hi, i am new to mobile Internet.
I thinking to purchase wi-fi router tomorrow, but i plan to subscribe to EVDO intenret soon.
And i got Verizon USB EVDO modem - UM150 what options will i have to connect second laptop to Internet trough it, e.g. can i use shared networking (NAT) or i need some special hardware (router) for that?
Thx a lot.
P.S. I am not sure how Verizon blocks you from sharing connection? |

The easiest way is to simply order a CradlePoint from the 3GStore. When I need to share my desktop with my laptop - I just plug in my 3gStore CradlePoint to my Verizon USB aircard - and both my Desktop and Laptop connect to it. When my kids come over - I hook up my card to my CradlePoint and the kids can all use their laptop's while visiting.
If you look to the right of the screen - you will see a list of routers... |

You COULD add a second wifi card, and then share the connection that way. Or, you COULD use an ethernet cable between the two. Both would work, and require ICS to setup, but anything at xp or better this should work fine.
With Windows 7, the options are even BETTER and sharing is pretty simply.
If you have just the USB modem, then you can just share it with your wifi connection point as an ad-hoc connection, this is easy to setup. |

AndrewShnider - I don't work for 3GStore but agree completely. The other poster mentioned the cable route (I use to do that) but is does require some FireWall preparation, etc. If you aren't on top of that stuff - it could get very frustrating. I'm telling ya - there is nothing simplier then just plug'n your USB card into a CradlePoint and connecting via your wireless builtin laptop card(s). |

| I rather looking for complicated, but cheap solution. Within 20-40 bucks. |

Until some pipes in with specific instructions - I will try to do this from memory (not home right now to verify).
1. Buy a Ethernet Cable (a few bucks).
2. Make sure both PC are off.
3. Plug into PC with AirCard and run to PC you want to give access to...
4. You can turn the PC with AirCard on but keep the other PC off.
5. Make sure both PC are now (EtherNet Cable) connected.
6. I will assume you are using WindowsXP...go to START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK CONNECTIONS
7. Find your AirCard and right click to PROPERITES
8. Go to ADVANCED Tab
9. Select ALLOW OTHER TO CONNECT THROUGH...
10. Now - this is the tricky part - you have to make sure your FireWall won't block you connection to your other PC when you turn it on. I'm using ZoneAlarmPro and all I have to do is set my Trusted and Internet Zones to Medium.
11. Now, go online with your AirCard.
12. When you are online - turn on your other PC (the one that is Ethernet cabled to your PC with the card).
13. Keep your fingers crossed - remember, this is all from memory.
Hope I didn't forget a step. |

Be sure you get an Ethernet Crossover Cable to connect 2 computer together without a router. |
