Hello all,
I have just recently came across this forum, and I have recently bought a XV6600 from verizon. I have a voice plan and the $45 "unlimited" data plan attached to the new phone. I have read several posts about using the phone as a modem, but it's been awhile since anyone has talked about it. I know the ToS states that verizon doesn't want you to use the phone as a modem, but it contrary to what to "sales" people told me.

So, does vzw axe you for trying to use the phone as a modem? try to make charges on your bill? etc.

When I bought the phone, I made it very clear to to sales guy that I needed the phone to be able to get email, access web, and use it as a modem for my laptop. He said it wasn't a problem, and even told me the site for instructions to use the phone as a modem. I have a side business that I need to always be connected to while working my real job as well. Of course, I didn;t get to see the ToS until after I bought the phone.

So, what's the skinny? Are they still sending people death threats in the mail or charging outragoues fees on your bill, if you use it as a modem?

I too have dreams of cheating the MAN! Please keep us tuned as to the response of this wild dream. After all the 6600 is a blueTooth device and everything speaks bluetooh now so what's the big deal?

You'll need to confirm but that $45/month unlimited is only if accessing the Net ON the phone. I've seen reports on a 6600 forum of bills over $1000 when tethering a Verizon phone. Michael (site admin) mentioned that no Verizon phone 'officially' supports EVDO tethering except for the BlackBerry EVDO phone.

I hope you got that phone cheap as the 6700 phone has been out a while on Sprint. They have official tethering support too for much less.

For those of us who experimented with the Moto e815, there may be
good news from a company that is using the Verizon Network to create
a virtual network. There are some details available, but it looks like
early 2006 for real information.

Amp'd Mobile is apparently a music oriented phone service with odd
pricing schemes, including a $200/month unlimited data/voice plan
for their phones.

Sprint is fine with using your phone as a modem I just picked up the PPC-6700 and chose the mobile user data plan that costs $25 which entitles you to use up to 40Mb of data and .02 for each Kb after which gets caped at $70.00 so in other word Its $70 for unlimited use.
this phone is nice you can use it over Bluetooth or USB and it's very stable microsoft did a good job with windows mobile 5 the only thing it lacks in is battery life, but most if not all pocket pc phone's have this issue.

WELL WE ALL KNOW THE 6700 IS CAPABLE OF MODEM TETHERING, DOES ANY ONE KNOW OF THE SOFTWARE PROGRAM FOR THE PHONE? MY VERIZON PHONE DOES NOT HAVE THE " USB MODEM" PROGRAM THAT THE SPRINT PHONE DOES.

Yes Verizon lets you use the VX6600 as a modem with a Bluetooth connection. In fact the 6600 is the only such device Verizon will allow Bluetooth DUN with -- Verizon had Samsung turn off that feature on the i730 and i830, and the new VX6700.

With my 6600 all I had to do is get a USB Bluetooth device, I got a Kensington class 1 at an office supply store for $35. Installed the software on my laptop, and paired the laptop and 6600 and the Dial Up Modem feature was active. I got connection speeds on EVDO of 500Kbs. Something I can't do with my i730 the insurance company replacement for my damaged 6600.
