If you use the trick that allows you to tether one computer and have your mifi still act as a wifi hotspot (as explained here)...

if you do the mifi firmware upgrade you will not have the same functionality!

after the firmware update you'll be able to either:

-- tether a computer via USB and have that computer access the internet
-- tether mifi via USB & have computers surf via wifi connection to mifi

but NOT BOTH!

after firmware upgrade, if a mifi is allowing a tethered computer to access the internet, other computers will be able to connect to the mifi's SSID, but they cannot connect to the internet!

we've confirmed the difference on two different verizon mifi's

if we figure out a way to bring back 'original' functionality, we'll post the info on this thread.

I knew it. I used the tethering trick for 1 day and it was working great and then did the firmware update, BANG, no internet. I wish I would have read this a week ago before I did the update. It's been driving me CRAZY wondering why it worked, then it didn't all of the sudden and I figured that was it!!! Thanks for calming my nerves with this post, dang you Verizon!

Apparently the new firmware update for the MiFi breaks this functionality.
