Are there any modifications or software that show the signal status in the taskbar area? like winamp, there are many addons that allow stuff like that.

What operating system? Mac OSX Snow Leopard will usually display mobile broadband info in the taskbar up near the clock and airport icon.

Windows 7 will have native support for some 3G/EVDO Cards.

Much more posted after it is officially released.

I know windows 7 will support evdo and what not, but the problem is that I’ll be filling out forms and hit send and find out I’m on 1xrtt or even worse, disconnected. I could have the sprint smartview on top of all windows at all times but it’s a bit large for that. I'm tried of blindly clicking surfing not knowing if I'm even connected.

If there was some sort of meter that was in the taskbar area or the notification area, even as simple as a bar that displayed how strong the signal was and green for connected to evdo and red for disconnected and yellow for 1xrtt or something along that lines. Can someone forward a request to sprint?

If you use Sierra Wireless "Watcher" connection manager, instead of SmartView, it will put a small bar graph on the task bar showing signal strength. You can also lock in "EVDO Only" mode with this software.

Details are in the second post of my website: http://www.EVDO-Tips.com
