No. Windows XP Home (updated) on a Viliv S5.
VZAccess Manager version is 6.10.14 (2201e) FWIW.
I don't know the tab or menu option for the firmware upgrade. I also don't know what should or shouldn't be connected, apart from the MiFi being connected to the computer via USB. |

thats probably your problem. get a later version .... |
That was it. Once I upgraded VZAccess Manager, the firmware update was ridiculously easy. Indeed, VZM asked me if I wanted to update my firmware, and told me if I wanted to do so later, just go to the Options menu.
Moral of the story: Don't trust check for updates, particularly for major version changes, here 6 to 7. Always go to the download page. This occurred to me, but I guess I was lazy or in a rush.
Now I need to figure out what this firmware update actually improves for me. But at least I'm past the update. Thanks again for your help! |

I'm replying to my reply, but it's about what happened after updating VZAccess Manager and the firmware.
VZAccess Manager would not see my MiFi when the USB connection was through an unpowered USB hub with other devices connected. However, it saw it fine when there was a direct USB connection. The reason for the difference is apparent. I just mention this so others won't make the same mistake. |

| Michael's original post here a few days ago lead many astray (including me) so to speak in regard to the install of the firmware. I'm glad you have authored your informational, Alex. Have to thank Michael for breaking the news about the MiFi firmware. |

| I updated my MiFi today right after I found out about it. I was pleasantly surprised to see it fixed one annoyance of mine which is that when charging, the MiFi's Wifi is active. That's caused some headaches because some of our equipment would inadvertently connect to the internet through the MiFi when we didn't expect/want that to happen. Now one can toggle the wifi off when charging by touching the power button and watching for the side lamp to extinguish. Awesome update. |
