EVDO tethering: MIP versus SIP-only

My EVDO provider supports Simple IP, so I can disable MIP on my EVDO-phone (Motorola k1m) and both (EVDO) on-device mobile browsing as well as (EVDO) tethering via PC-DUN works just fine.

When roaming on other networks that require MIP authorization, SIP-only mode no longer works, so I have to enable MIP. After I have enabled MIP, my EVDO on-device mobile browsing works again, but I cannot get EVDO tethering to work.

So my question is
For EVDO tethering in MIP-mode, how phone/modem settings and PC DUN settings are different from those for SIP-only mode?

I guess my question is not necessarily specific to Motorola k1m phones, it might as well apply to all Qualcomm-based devices or even many other EVDO-devices
