|
|
I'm running my Verizon V740 Expresscard through a Cradlepoint MBR1000. Both great products. And both sold and supported very well by 3GStore.
My question revolves around printing from a conventional USB-wired printer. I'd like to plug the printer directly into the router, but the MBR1000 does not appear to have the port facility for that (both USB ports on the MBR1000 are for broadband card data input).
Anyone have any ideas of how I might achieve this? Perhaps using a second WDS-capable router that has an accessory USB port? If so, any recommendations on a cheap repeater router with that capability?
I know I could just buy a network-aware printer, but would rather not incur that cost.
TIA.

not only is it cheap in price, it has out-of-the-box support for alternative firmwares
I have not used that particular router, but DD-WRT with USB support firmware I have, and that's going to be your slickest option to do WDS and USB print serve, and a dedicated USB print server cost's $5 less that the router.
if WDS doesn't work (i've heard it does, but haven't tested YET)between the MBR and DD-WRT, DD-WRT has a client mode and repeater mode as well, so either way you should be able to get it to work. |

Never mind, got it figured out.
I pulled out an old Airport Extreme router (which has a USB accessory port) I had in the closet, configured it to not broadcast, and connected it to my MBR1000 via Ethernet cable. Now any print jobs sent to the MBR1000 are automatically and transparently routed to the Airport Extreme, and thus to the printer.
Works like a charm! |
