Okay I'm starting to get really frustrated. I've had my card for a little less than two years and when I first got my setup complete service was great. I'd constantly have a ping around 100-120ms and downloads stayed around 1-1.2Mbps down constantly maybe dropping to around 700Kbps or so.
Anymore it seems like my pings are jumping up and down constantly. I can't even hardly play online anymore because I will get some random lag spike of 500ms that last for seconds to minutes. Then it drops down and goes back up. It never used to do it and its almost useless now for gaming and taking some of my classes online that use voip. I'm also getting packet loss on occasion which is really frustrating. It just times out on occasion then starts to work fine again.
The speeds have dropped some and my average now seems to be around 700Kbps down and I see it drop well below 300Kbps at times. Its just frustrating to pay $60 a month for crap like this. I'm just wondering if anyone else is having problems these days? I'm kind of thinking the reason is because more and more people have upgraded to EVDO capable phones and since its shared my service has completely went to sh*t. I'm about ready to move because I'm just plain sick of dealing with it. Its honestly pathetic that in this day and age I'm pretty much forced to move if I want an actual cable line. |

iPhone invasion
there was an article a few years back about a guy who traveled across a valley form his place to a "neighbors" house an asked a c complete stranger if he could put in cable for them if he could do a point to point network, and share the bill. |

Well the iPhone isn't affecting me because its on At&t. But all the new phones have EVDO on Verizon and all the MMS and browsing is killing my connection.
I've already thought of doing a point to point system. Comcast has there 50Mbps tier about 3 miles from my house currently. I had a survey crew come out but they wouldn't service the area. I'd do point to point but I'm in the mountains and don't have a line of sight.
I'm also a registered BFFR Aggregator with Verizon. I've handed out about 40 of them so far and of course the idiots around here would love DSL but are to lazy to fill out the damn form and send it in. Out of the 40 I handed out 13 actually filed them. I'm not wasting gas to drive around and hand stuff out so people can start a fire. Freaking worthless do nothing jack ass Americans. I'd make them fill it out right there but they have to put there account info in and I'm taking that responsibility if something happens to there account. |

| I think alot of it has to do with the new wimax rollout. Thats when I started to see a difference in my connection and ping times. It isnt very consistant anymore no atter what I do . one of these days I to may not be broadbandless. It does suck that so many phones now to hog the bandwidth that we use for daily pc tasks or enjoyment. but none the less there will be a connection to all of us some day we just may be to old to have a desire to use it.. |

Glad I'm not the only one. I'm just pissed tonight because I've got all my classwork done and would like to play some CSS. I'm getting so many lags spikes its completely unplayable tonight. For a little bit I'll drop down to around 100ms then I just jump back up again. Its royally pissing me off.

| I travel all 48 states and it seems like the evenings are when things tend to slow down. Makes sense - people come home from school/work and do what they do with the bandwidth, more users and devices too. It sucks sometimes. But I do my share of bandwidth hogging. Even out in the sticks at my home it seems like more neighbors must have signed up with VZW. It was nice when I had the new EVDO tower all to myself! |

I called Sprint about my connection - and that I wanted to switch to ATT and cancel my Sprint. They played hardball with me and I didn't win the case to not pay the $150 that day. Might try again in a week or two.
Regardless - my connection here is pretty bad on the west coast in the Bay area. I am really disappointed with ATT and Sprint for lack of speed. On the east coast, I had connections that were very VERY fast (for 3G that is). But out here - forget it.
I agree that iPhone's and other devices use a LOT more bandwidth than the current infrastructure can realistically support (from what I can tell).
In the end, I tried alternatives such as more powerful antenna's etc., with no effect. Its just where I live, and the amount of people that are on my same tower(s). |

See right now my connection is running great. I just played some source with zero issues. Ran a ping test and look at these results.
So much better than they were last night. That episode lasted like 6 hours where it spiked really bad. It used to do it only for a little bit but now those spurts where latency sky rockets lasts much longer. |

Couldn't you make your points just as well without using all the gutter language? Understandably you are frustrated but..... |

I have the same problem, now or later, or before.
I play cod2 online alot, and I get pings of like 150 or up to 999 sometimes.
I get about 1 - 1.4 MB's down almost always consistently which = 100-150 kb/s
Everyonce in a while, my connection turns to crap, lower speeds, etc.
The ping does not stay CONSISTENT in the games that I play, which severly downgrades my skill.
I know I am about 50% better in the game, but the ping is major nuisance.
I'm not that overly distraught about my connection, but I wish I got faster speeds and better pings, and periods where it don't turn to the crap.
Here are some of my tests, they change all the time though.
I have gotten better than this, but I don't remember or can't change it back to the way I had my settings to get it again. |

^^^^ That's the exact same problem I have. I normally ping around 130-160ish in most of the Counter Strike Source servers I play but I'll get spikes up to 500+ms. I just finished a match where I was playing great at 150 but then got random spikes jumping me to close to a second and my score went to crap.
My test times vary and it does seem to be random. Sometimes the spikes never occur and other times they just jump for hours on end.
Test stats from right now.

I live in rural east Texas & over the last week I have noticed a BIG change in my internet. I use Verizon because it's them or dial-up (Hughesnet is way to expensive). I went from having a -82 signal with 1.1mbps to getting lucky with just less than 700kbps with a -82 signal. There is not a specfic time that it happenes. My nearest neighbor is half a mile away, i think its safe to say that their cellphones are not an issue. I have been with Verizon for almost 2 years & I am still on their unlimited plan I have had a few problems now and then but this is horrible. Something has changed.
