Unlocked Sierra Wireless 881u Compatible with EVDO Routers..

If this topic has been discussed I apologize. I searched for "unlocked usb modem" and nothing came back that was helpful. My next problem was trying to find under what topic to post this question under...ADMIN folks feel free to move it to the proper category. Smile

I live in Papua New Guinea where the local cell phone signal is 900mhz signal with Edge technology. Nothing like this is available in country so I purchased an UNLOCKED SIERRA WIRELESS 881U from Ebay in the US, which is able to use our local cell provider to connect up to access the web and email functions just fine.

Does anyone know if there is any limitations on the "unlocking" of a cell phone as it relates to any of these EVDO routers. Will I be able to just plug it in and make it work or will I need another "hack" to get it to work? Are the EVDO routers tied down to the major carriers in the US as well or can they be used world-wide pending they have a compatible phone.

I am aware that Sierra Wireless acquired EVDO Routers, but was curious as to anyone having knowledge of an unlocked phone working in an EVDO router anywhere in the world. The limitation to most forums posts limited to US Carriers imply that it is not compatible or they are not even aware of the huge overseas market.
