My contract ends in just a few days. I was contemplating dumping it since they changed the TOS for 5GB. However, Cricket has a pretty good offer going. For $40/mo you get the same 5GB, but their terms say that they will just throttle you back if you go over. And, if you get frustrated, you can just cancel since they don't have a contract.
So, Cricket is less per month (albeit with a much smaller coverage area) and maybe less speed, but the risk is so much lower.
I receive my card tomorrow from Cricket, so I will report back on the performance differences.
Sucks that Sprint did this, but everyone else did too. I used to use my connection for Slingbox all the time, but I gave that up so I wouldn't get the shaft. Now I don't have to worry about huge overages or ETF's. Hopefully, Cricket's service will be good.

I got to have nationwide coverage. Cricket is just too far away from that to be useful to me. |

Despite my initial enthusiasm, I will be returning my Cricket card. Their connection isn't as reliable and doesn't seem fast enough. Measured by Speak Easy's speedtest, I got 512k up and down. Despite this, it feels faster, but I cannot measure faster.
I still prefer their way of handing "heavy" users, but now that my Sprint contract is up, I'm not going to worry about it. |
