So I've got some of these cards... they seem to work well. It's nice that there are drivers for windows and the Mac for this card. (one of the reasons I upgraded to it with the fact that it includes the Adapter)
But... what about using mobile 3G routers?
No luck getting dlink to get a new firmware for the DIR-450.
Sonicwall is looking into the firmware for their 3G model router.
But what about the others?
With the new little my Card devices comming out (those little credit card looking gizmos that give you a wifi hotspot for up to 5 devices I wonder if the mobile router thing might die) |

as mentioned in the PC770 review that was the subject of this thread: | Quote: | | Though it is not on the "officially supported" list of devices, our PC770 did work with the Cradlepoint CTR500 and MBR1000 routers that feature an expresscard slot. It is highly likely that a future firmware release by Cradlepoint will add the PC770 to the officially supported list of devices. |
since the publish date of that review, we've since learned the PC770 also works in the MBR1200
you're entitled to your opinion, but most of us think that the "card looking gizmos" you refer to have a LONG way to go before killing off the superior cradlepoint routers. |

Does this mean they will never create PC770 firmware for the DIR-450? |

At this point I would say no. I asked and they said they were not planning any new updates for that device. They didn't really seem to care that the router is still sold but the cards it support are not sold anymore.
Oh well. |

Thanks for the info. I tried to get a PC5750 from VZW yesterday and they said it is the end of lifecycle for them and the PC770 is the only PCMCIA card. Too bad we have about a dozen DIR-450s in the field.
I guess we'll be replacing routers as well when the old Kyocera KPC650s and PC5750s fail. Any suggestions on a good mobile broadband router that uses USB VZW? Something like the NETGEAR MBR624GU? |

You can do old cards I guess. I haven't played with the MBR 624GU and for some reason there isn't much on evdo forums on the Netgear stuff.
I have looked at " http://www.mushroomnetworks.com/product.aspx?product_id=1014 " because it would actaully be doing something special. Would require an additional cost per month to bond your links together... but this device looked a hell of a lot cooler then using your usual modem.
Just pop in up to 4 USB modems and you could download from all 4 links (like load bal) or bond them over the internet to mushroom's Data Center and you can upload and download over the 4 links as if it was 1. kind of like multiplexing T1's.
I guess you could use it with just one.... I haven't played with there stuff yet... but I was planning to next year. |

having been one of the beta testers for that Netgear router, i'd advise against it.
check this out for more elaboration: http://bit.ly/CPvsNetgear
*any* of these are a safer, long term bet: http://3gstore.com/cradlepoint |
