|
|
While the built-in support in 10.6 is very nice, the problem remains that every time you insert the U760 (reportedly U727 as well), it mounts the installer image. You have to eject the installer image before the device will be recognized by the system as a WWAN card.
There's a relatively simple solution to this using Pacifist. What we're about to do is install only the extension that supresses mounting the installer image, without any of the rest of the Sprint/Novatel software.
1. Insert the U760 and wait for the Sprint SmartView image to mount.
2. Launch Pacifist, and open the Installer.mpkg
3. In 'Contents of 3G_Drivers_v2.2.8-PS.pkg', select NovatelWirelessFilter.kext and click Install in the toolbar.
4. Reboot
I've only tested this with my Sprint U760, but it's based on a method a colleague found for his Sprint U727. As that's a Novatel .kext, I suspect the same will apply to Novatel modems on Verizon
PS:
If you want to skip the reboot, you can eject the SmartView image and utter the following chant in terminal:
| Code: | | sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/NovatelWirelessFilter.kext |
Enter your password and you're done.
Props to justdave for identifying the right .kext |

| Jamus, I have tried to follow your instructions to the letter, however I don't know what to do with the script. in your video the script looks like a black icon almost like a .exe file, on my desktop the postflight.sh looks like a sheet of paper, did I do something wrong? when i open terminal, I can cd ~/desktop but i cant sudo bash postflight. it says no such directory, like I said, it may have something to do with the fact that I have no idea what i'm doing. could you please dumb it down a little? also, what it run it as a superuser mean?? and how do I run the script?? |

Jamus, you seem very knowledgeable, and I admired your information (both, the video & the script?) I tried to follow your instruction to the letter, but i have encountered the following trouble:
I did everything you suggested,
I alt + clicked the script, it downloaded and I moved it to the desktop it is different from the icon in your video. In your video it appeared as a dark gray icon as if it were a windows .exe file (please excuse my ignorance, I am new to both Mac and EVDO) however on my desktop it looks like a sheet of paper and it is "postflight.sh" anyway, when I ran the installer, I was able to keep up with the video, until I got to the second line. I was able to
"cd ~/desktop", the when I typed in " sudo bash postflight " it said no such file or directory. I suspect this has something to do with the script. Perhaps I am not executing it, or formatting it properly. Could you please explain what I am doing wrong? How do I turn the postflight.sh into the right file like your icon in the video? Thanks in advance. |

I went to the VZ site and check for SL software for my USB 720 but no joy. However, they did update the USB 760. Does this mean I need to upgrade to the 760 because SL won't support my older 720 or does it mean I'm fine the way I am?

here's an interesting discovery: Verizon Wireless has already updated their vzam.net site to list Mac OS X 10.6 compatible software:

If it's named postflight.sh, you need to run it "sudo bash postflight.sh".
Just to make sure, run "sudo bash ./postflight.sh". In short, the additional "./" will make sure it will only look on the Desktop for the postflight script.

Thank you so much. Your instructions worked like a charm! Now if I could only improve my connection speed, the speedtest.net results were a sad 0.10mbps average Nevertheless, Thank you for helping me out. |

I have a Verizon Wireless V740 EVDO card. It works "great" out of the box using the built-in drivers (I upgraded from 10.5.x to 10.6.0 and now to 10.6.1).
However, what I've noticed is that, every so often, my EVDO card will just drop. Worse, something dies deep inside my Mac and I have to power-cycle it (well, reboot probably) to get it functional again...
/var/log/system.log shows:
| Code: | Sep 16 18:50:18 63 pppd[484]: Connection terminated.
Sep 16 18:50:18 63 pppd[484]: ioctl(TIOCSETD, TTYDISC): Device not configured

Sep 16 18:50:18 Akebono pppd[484]: disconnect script failed |
And then it just says "Initializing..." in the menu bar, and will never recover, no matter how many times I remove/reinsert the unit. The system log shows this disturbing info:
| Code: | Sep 16 18:50:25 Akebono wwand[790]: NSScanner: nil string argument
Sep 16 18:50:25 Akebono wwand[790]: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: '*** -[NSConcreteScanner setScanLocation:]: Range or index out of bounds'\n*** Call stack at first throw:\n(\n 0 CoreFoundation 0x00007fff821b15a4 __exceptionPreprocess + 180\n 1 libobjc.A.dylib 0x00007fff86a18313 objc_exception_throw + 45\n 2 CoreFoundation 0x00007fff821b13c7 +[NSException raise:format:arguments:] + 103\n 3 CoreFoundation 0x00007fff821b1354 +[NSException raise:format:] + 148\n 4 Foundation 0x00007fff88845dcb -[NSConcreteScanner setScanLocation:] + 131\n 5 wwand 0x000000010000aa3c 0x0 + 4295010876\n 6 Foundation 0x00007fff887f3f65 __NSThread__main__ + 1429\n 7 libSystem.B.dylib 0x00007fff864bff66 _pthread_start + 331\n 8 libSystem.B.dylib 0x00007fff864bfe19 thread_start + 13\n)

... which looks a whole lot like something deep inside has crashed in a very bad way..
Anyone seen this? Anyone with any experience? Best : anyone know how to fix it? I'm getting really tired of rebooting every night on my train-ride home.....
Thanks,
D |

| I posted it somewhere else here too, for sprint and my 598U I just installed the SSV app on 10.6, took care of the TRU-Install mounting, but app doesn't work, apples WWAN does. |

| First, thanks for the help. I've tried your method of resolving the A600 issue for Cricket, and definitely made progress. That said, when it's go time, launching from the Cricket Broadband application goes from "Dialing" immediately to a "Disconnected" state. Any ideas? I've followed the same steps and have the same output prior to that final moment of truth. |

| You have to bring it up on windows first with the verizon software. Then it updates firmware and tower map and it's happy. It came right up on my mac with the UM175 software for the older panatek |

Jamus I ran the script and followed exactly as the youtube shows it. Get the usual Terminal warnings etc just as your youtube shows it.
My device is still not seen?
I am on a hackentosh Dell Laptop XPS M1530 but its 100% clone but running an Chameleon EFI. Could the difference in the booloader and or EFI be the issue?
I have no issues with any other devices such as USB wireless or just USB period.
It mounts fine but I don't get the network preferences new connection at all.
Any other ideas? |

That I can't help with at all. Maybe check the console logs or system profile to see if anything shows up there. |
