Your helpful article on EVDO says the only people that are likely to be affected by the 5GB allowance are those that fall into the category "unless you happen to be 13 to 21 years old?"
I beg to differ, I'm no 'teenie' 71 in fact, and am an RV'R who would like to use Netflix while traveling as it is pretty difficult to update your mailing address 'on the trot' to have the disks sent.
Well according to your helpful chart, if I watch 4 movies I would already pass my limit (665mb x 8 hours = 5.3GB) Doesn't do much for me or others in my category, pretty wimpy actually Rolling Eyes

either way... you're right that 5GB isn't a lot if you do netflix or similar

Backup that 5GB aircard limit with a phone plan that has unlimited data. Then tether and double it ... at the least.

My best customers are over 65 ... very smart, savvy. and have the means to "make it work"

I have the capabilty of doing this with my AT&T phone. It works great too, I've set it up for testing purposes. I'm just afraid I'll get caught tethering without a tethering plan, so I refrain from using it.

I do most of my heavy downloading when I'm in a place with wifi. By the way, I'm hardly a teen. I have an old, pre capped Sprint account, so I'm not afraid of overages, but I still manage to keep it under 5 gigs. And yes, it is a pain in the blankety blank to keep it under the cap.

Sprint is nowhere near as "anal" about the 5GB cap as Verizon ... Sprint works with ya. And their Tech support these days? Top-notch.

Alright.

Let me tell you guys something.

I'm a teen.

I **HATE** Download caps.

I use more than 100gb a month.

And... even if I didn't use 100gb a month.

5gb limit is too low, even for the average web user.

Average web user would probaly use 5gb in 3 hours of web surfing.

EVDO needs to be more like cable internet, and less like over-priced, over-restrictions dial-up.

I used just over 50MB (uplink and downlink) in three hours and three minutes. I was researching various topics and completing work continuously.

You do realize that 5 gigs in 3 hours is like well over 400 kilobytes of continuous data per second, right?

But, I do agree with the last part, though.

I'd gladly take the cap if it would mean anything higher than 300 kilobits/sec.

4G is going to "up the bar" on all of this. Wimax/LTE it will reach out to all of us sooner than expected. MEANWHILE, use your your 3g aircard, get a WinMo smartphone, use Sprint if you can, install WmWiFirouter on it (or hack ICS) and double your 5GB limit, and for every other phone you have on a Sprint unlimited account you add that much more data.

So, aircard=5GB, phone =5GB+, second phone=5GB+ .. you've got 15GB at least there. And ALL of them can be plugged into a Cradlepoint router and shared.

Will that work for you?

Its impossible to use 5 Gigs in 3-4 hours by yourself unless you are downloading P2P, Torrents, etc.

Don't care what you are doing because it is none of my business but to say I am just surfing and completing work doesn't make sense.

It's impossible to use that much even if you ARE using torrents. That would equate to a 4mb connection, which 3G doesnt even come close.

Well actually...

If you have a really big download.

or

If you watch videos.

or

If you play games.

or

If you use VOIP

or

if you torrent

or.....

If you do all the normal things you usually do when you have cable internet...

I agree that you don't take that much up in a few hours... but you do
take up a lot.

Lot of food for thought in this string, but for the advice to use an unlimited plan all I can say is - where is it?
I've trolled many forums, googled extensively, and all I have come up with is the infamous 5GB "unlimited" plans, and an angry armada of infuriated people bitching incessantly (legitimately in my view) about the outright deception practised by these odious companies and their paid lackeys.
It did exist once didn't it? I'm talking about (don't kill yourself with laughter) "truth in advertising" why I even believe the government actually used to enforce it, which will probably come as news to our younger generation, but those with a few years under their belts will remember- as an example- when the white coated hucksters on television actually had to be bona fide, and not some charlatan lying his back teeth out.
Now that I've unloaded that, will some kind person please tell me where this holy of holies, this golden grail, this shangri-la of truly unlimited (in the real sense of the word) plans is?
I'm waiting with baited breath.

There aren't any. The only ones in existance are the old, grandfathered in plans.
