| well I tried to get dsl and cable to no luck, and the only thing avalable to my area is satelite which I already have or AT&T wireless broadband. We were going to cancel satelite for at&t service but do you think we will go over the 5gb limit with 3 users and online play. I dont download heavly I mainly spend 8 hours surfing message boardsand on occasion download music. I want to play online games so will I go over the limit? |

Some routers or "share your internet" can measure actual usage. I would do so over a typical week and see.
Generally you shouldn't hit 5G gaming or audio streaming (Verizon has usage on a 24 hour delay, and a 14 day return policy).
Updating windows or linux, downloading or streaming video or other big stuff would go beyond 5G. |

I don't do much downloading, I downloaded bit meter 2 yesterday at around 5am and only used 5 mb.
Also I could not get the mifi from virizon they said it will only go 52-90 in my area and would not be fast enough for online gaming, is that true or they just trying to save $$ and not sell me a product that I will mainly be using on the extended broadband. |

on our article at http://www.EVDOinfo.com/5GB
is an explanation that 1hour of the popular online game World of Warcraft is +/- 32 MB
Given that, a WoW gamer could do 156 hrs in one billing cycle before they probably need to worry about overage charges.
156 hours spread across 30 days is +/- 5.2 hours a day.
My information came from hours of online research to find this official WoW website:
http://eu.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_GB&articleId=19401
if other gamers can provide 'official' information posted on websites of other popular online games, post the link here or email them to me at alex@ 3gstore.com and i'll update the article.
we may even start a dedicated article to gaming bandwidth if we get enough official website links to justify it. |

Well soviet prince , it looks like we hang out at the same boards, Lol.
A typical first person shooter uses about 20 megabytes per hour. with a 5 gig cap, you can use about 160 megabytes per day.
I still stick to my suggestion on the other board that if I were you, which is out of range for Verizon, or Sprint, and couldn't get cable or DSL, I'd be looking for a local ISP that can hook you up with an ISDN connection. AT&T would be my last choice. One, their 3g coverage is horrible, and two, which is most important, their overage charges are draconian. There's no way I'd expose myself to $503 a gigabyte overage charges. |

ISDN is going to be WAY slow compared to EVDO or DSL.
These days, ISDN is mostly used for radio broadcast links (oddly enough). It's still around for some low bandwidth point to point data connections also, but it's really not used much at all anymore.

I'd have to say this, ISDN is not broadband, true enough, but it blows satellite out of the water. I'm an online gamer as well. True, the download rate is slow, 100-200 kbps max, but the latency is just as good as cable or dsl. That translates into great ping times in first person shooter games. Satellite is useless for gaming, since it typically uses a regular land telephone line for upstream, then you wait sometimes up to a few seconds before the data you requested to start returning. What I'm saying is this: if you are in a rural area and satellite is your only broadband option, and gaming is your thing, ISDN is something I'd look into since you can get it just about anywhere. I've had it, it worked great for me at the time. But when DSL became available, I upgraded from it. It just beats satellite, and it most certainly beats 1xrtt!
Anyhow Prince, good luck you ya whatever you decide. Just be careful on your data usage with that AT&T card. |

problem with isdn Is that it will be very slow, and the other occupants in the room say why would we pay to get something slower. wish there was another option for broadband somehow |
