Turning web logging on the cradlepoint can be revealing.
I disabled the RSS feed reader extensions in firefox but still had the live bookmarks and periodically they would go out and request data.
I don't have any web gadgets on my taskbar but that is another source - the stock tickers, automatic update programs, etc. can all connect and do something periodically.
Enable access controls and tell it to let everything through but log every connection and you will quickly know if anything is trying to phone home. |

| My Sprint grandfathered 3G is totaling about 10-15GB per month. When my contract is up on 4/2010 I may go with Cricket 3G unlimited. |

Here in San Diego, Cricket works great, but I get a 10.x.x.x IP address, and on Verizon (and I think Sprint) you get a dynamic but real IP address, so you can do things like run a server easily. (I have cricket + verizon at the moment - long story...)
Sprint also has various discount programs (as does Verizon) - your employer, credit union, AAA, or some other organization you belong to might have a discount program. |

Sprint better not deny no overage charges cause thats the sales pitch that got me signed up a month before the caps were in place. Verizon and AT&T were both already capped. sprint was the last one left and I got signed with them for that reason.
Sprint called me for an upgrade and while talking to the guy I said well will i get unlimited like I have now? He said oh I'm glad you asked that I didn't know you had an old contract (sure) He told me i used 7+ gigs that month so they're aware of my overages aswell. |

| trife, since you signed up before the overage policy went into place, you should be fine. If you want to double-check, you can look at your Sprint bill or log into your sprint.com account and make sure that the plan you're on doesn't have the words "5GB" in the title. |

I went over last month. Cost an extra $80.
As for selling an old contract, we tried to take over responsibility for an unlimited Verizon account. Was told it would be a new account, and have the 5GB cap. |

Do you have tips on maximizing the 5gb? |
I'm fortunate to have a legacy plan with unlimited usage (for the time being)
For the record, I think the 5GB cap is kind of low. I think for the typical 2009 internet surfer it should be about 15 GB or should be on a rollover system to help level out occasional spikes in usage for things such as application patches and downloads. 15 MB should still be sufficient to limit things file sharing and web servers which is what they claim to want to avoid. |

10,374,560.11kb means you used over 10GB. |
