What is the best RSSI value you could find indoors, at the location you want to use EVDO?
Between -71 to -79
At the location of best signal indoors, what were your speedtest.net results?
DownSpd : 300-400kb Upspeed: 60-100KB
What is best signal immediately outside and around your house
Still around the same lowest was -67
At the location where you found the best signal outdoors, what were your speedtest.net results?
Same speeds
How far do you have to drive to find stable/reliable -80 signal?
No need to go anywhere
What's between you and that -80 signal? Trees? Elevation
I live on a military base but when I do leave the gate there is alot of Trees around and some elevation.
Assuming you need to mount an antenna outside your home/office, how much antenna cable will you need to get from the antenna to the device? Remember, the shorter the better! Longer lengths may require the use of a dual-band direct-connect 3watt amp to benefit from the antenna.
I would say around 10ft no more than 15ft
Do you need to provide better signal to just one device or multiple devices?
Just 1 device my laptop
Does each device you want to provide gain to have a jack to accept an antenna adapter cable?
Yes
Extra Information
Some more good information to get a better answer is I;m currently in the military stationed at Fort Gordon Ga. The above information is the speed I get from my home over the weekend my wife came to visit and we stayed at a hotel that was about 5miles off post. When I ran a speedtest where we were at I was shocked my download speed was running at a 3.5mb! with a RSSI of -47.
Seeing that I decided that a good antenna should be perfect to get those speeds or at least close to it but I just don't know which antenna would be best for me. So I'm hoping the community can give me good input cause I don't know much at all about antennas but I'm ready to jump on and make a purchase asap. Thank you very much also I'm not looking to shell out 100's of dollars though if that helps! |

your post is a bit confusing. the signal levels you listed as answers to questions are already very good. sure, the speeds associated with those good signals, really sucked. but i don't think we can blame the signal.
the more likely culprit is an overloaded cell tower that has to try and serve the base personnel.
in any case, since you want an antenna, and aren't likely to be able to mount anything on outside of any base structure... you'll want our portable booster antenna. here's the one bundled with adapter cable for your USB760:

don't forget, that antenna may improve the signal, without any increase in speed... because i suspect the tower to be overloaded. |

Yeah the verizon representative said the same thing when she told me my signal was good and my speed test are reasonable but I was hoping that with an antenna I could get down speed like I did when I was with my wife not even 5 miles off base. Now there are others in the barracks that also use antennas that they place outside their windows because we have a pretty big ledge outside our windows that people tend to climb up after the doors to our barracks are locked haha.
So placing an antenna would be no problem but looking at the link you provided that would also help alot since its much smaller to work with but now what is the difference between that booster and other antennas I see on the site? I just want to get some more information on this before I make a purchase hoping to buy one before this Friday. Thank you though for your reply! |

if you can use the booster antenna up next a window with just its 3ft cable length, you are likely to get as good a result as... using our magmount antenna just outside that same window... unless the window is the Low-E kind of window.
to see if its any better outside the window versus inside, why not do a bunch of tests and see what the average shows you?
if you want the magmount that can sit outside the window, this is it:
http://3gstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_145&products_id=1082
magmount has a 10ft long cable, and *requires* a magnetic surface to work properly. a piepan, cookie can lid or similar that is at least 8" round (or larger) will do the trick.
you really should not expect to see the speeds you did five miles away. at that other location, you were probably connecting to a different tower that has way more pipe and way less users. |
