Ever since Memorial Day weekend, my EVDO service with Verizon has been erratic and poor at our house. Prior to this weekend, the speeds were pretty darn good. I have a USB727 and have it tied into a "Trucker Antenna" that I bought from the the 3G store. I typically get in the -85dB to 91 dB range which I know is not blazing, but it still allowed me to download songs and such in a timely fashion. Prior to that weekend, we typically approached our 5GB monthly limit.

Post Memorial Day weekend, service has been spotty. At times, the good old days are back. Mostly, we feel like we are on dial up or worse. And it is not consistent. Two Sundays ago I was watching YouTube videos with ease. Today on this Sunday I can barely get EVDO forums to load. Some Info:

- I live in a formally large Alltel area. I think they merged service that weekend. Would they have shutdown towers and merged Alltel users into the one we formerly used? I am thinking the tower is overloaded at times.
- Sometimes when I log on, the VZAccess Manager says "Roaming" and the speeds and signal strength are amazing! What is up with that?
- I have downloaded the latest VZAcess Manager software, but the service is slow.
- I have taken the laptop to several areas around here and the speeds are great. I even took the USB727 to Kitty Hawk, NC and the speeds were great.

What should I do here. I have another year left on my contract with Verizon, but it does not perform any longer for what it was purchased for. How can I guide their service reps to help me out. They always point out that I do not live in a service area according to their maps. This is even when I was "outside" of their service area I normally approached the 5GB limits.

Has anyone else had issues with this. Potentially the Alltel connection? I would be really interested if anyone could help me. Thanks.

From what I have heard, updating the PRL of the modem solves most of the issues.
