Has anyone ever ESN Swapped devices on a Unlimited account?

OK, I've got a rather nasty situation here. I have an old "grandfathered in" Unlimited EVDO account, but my device (a Novatel EX720) took a rather nasty fall recently and is rapidly falling apart... it is literally held together at this point with super glue and duct tape, and that obviously won't last forever. (Plus I definitely notice a degradation in my device's signal quality since The Fall.) I would like to replace it with one of those swanky new MiFi adapters. I'm not averse to buying the adapter outright (it is "only" $300, which is a small price to pay IF I am able to keep my Unlimited account status). But I am concerned that if I call Sprint and have them ESN swap my account, they might (either purposefully or inadvertently through carelessness/stupidity) turn it into a new 5GB cap account.

Has anyone ever done this before ? (ESN swapped their device for a new one on an Unlimited account) What happened? Did they switch it to a 5 GB account? And if so, were you able to (by hook or by crook) "convince" them to reinstate your former unlimited status?

I'd like to go into this armed with as much knowledge/tools/trickery as possible. Thanks in advance for your help.

I've ESN swapped many times.

I have a back up 595U (ebay) in case I leave home in a rush and leave the active 595U and CTR350 behind.

Done both CSR ESN swaps and online without affecting my OOC 'unlimited' account so I'm not worried about cancelling the unlimited feature.
