Hi, long time reader first time poster. I've been using a Verizon USB 727 for the past year and a half and everything was running great my speed was between 500 -1000 KBPS down and about half that up but over the last few months my speed has slowed to a crawl. My signal strength is pretty good so I'm confused by my slow speeds. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I have been noticing the same thing, especially at night after 11 pm until about 9 am. I have only had the Verizon service since May, so I am no expert. I have been attributing it to an upgrade since it only occurs overnight when traffic should be slow. My cradlepoint router signal strength shows an rssi b/w 80-90 dbm which usually translates to speeds of 0.5 - 1.2 upload and 0.2 - 0.3 download. At night things are at a crawl with uploads of 0.2 and downloads of 0.03 with intermittent no service even though my signal strength is rock solid.

My speed always seems to start out good but after a few minutes it just dies. Right now I'm fly at 1.6 MB down but by this afternoon I'll be back down to .1 or .2 MB down. I'm using the following setup:
Omni External Antenna
Direct Connect Amplifier
CradlePoint CTR-350

I don't think it's the equipment since sometimes I can get the higher speeds. I'm assuming Verizon just hates me. I just wonder if I'm missing something. I've checked the forums and tried resetting my ESN number and that didn't seem to help. Any other ideas?

it could just be that the tower you connect to is overloaded or otherwise messed up in some way.

maybe you can try driving around to see if other/nearby towers perform more consistently, and if so you can either complain to verizon about a specific tower issue, or invest in a directional dual band yagi antenna to force your gear to only connect to a better performing tower?

You would think that my speed would suck right now with it being Friday night and every high school kid surfing the web.

BTW, my sit up is an USB760, Cradlepoint MBR1000, Wilson amp, and Parabolic grid @ 2.5 miles from tower.
