Hello. I am new to the forum, but could not find a reference to this question in my search.

My company has used the WRT54G3G-ST to take to trade shows and the like for a while now. However, they now desire to switch from Sprint to AT&T. To that end, they got a Sierra Wireless AirCard 875 to test it out (yay, I got the job).

Obviously, the AT&T card will not currently work with the -ST version of this router. However, my boss insists he will not buy a new router, and wants me to do something about it. So my questions is...

Is it possible to force the AT&T card to work in the WRT54G3G-ST? I considered updating the firmware of the WRT54G3G-ST to the firmware of the WRT54G3G-AT, but don't want to brick the router.

Any help you might be able to offer would be appreciated.

You won't be able to force the card to work with the router. You might be able to force the router to work, if new firmware supports it.

Otherwise you're out of luck. Tell your boss he should have stuck with Sprint and used a Cradlepoint Cool ...

You could download the AT&T bin file, use a hex editor to change the header to wrt54g3g-st, then upload the modified firmware to your router. I used this methodology to change my Sprint Firmware on my WRT54G3G-ST box to the Verizon firmware. It has been working fine for 6 months now.
