I know that this question has been asked many times, but I can't figure out the steps. Many posters have stated on the UM175 press CRTL+D and enter the password DIAGVZW. OK, did that, but I dont have a settings menu show up to set to HDR mode.
A popup box comes up titled 'Support', with these buttons on it
Manual Activation
Mobile IP
Field Test

and a Create QNC checkbox at the bottom...

None of these buttons offer a setting to HDR.

The only diff is when I am connected, the top buttons are greyed, when not connected, they are all available to be pressed

What am I doing wrong?...
Thanks

Same here. I do not understand why someone can not shed some light on this issue.

We are disconnected so that's not the problem.

Were you formerly on Alltel?

Yes, would that cause a problem? I am a former Alltel customer (affected by the merger).

yes it does. You need to download the connection software from http://www.vzam.net for the 175 Then:

Go into Control Panel/Remove programs and remove your connection manager and the Pantech UM175 drivers. Both!

Then reboot the computer and install the version of VZAcess that you downloaded. Follow the install program and insert the modem when requested.

Then follow the procedure for HDR only

Will that change the network to which I connect? I currently have both VZAccess and Alltel Wireless Internet networks from which to connect. I only access the Alltel Wireless Internet option because when I try to connect to the VZAccess Internet option, a warning displays and says that charges could apply without an applicable plan.

Should I still do what you suggested?

Ignore that warning. It makes absolutely no difference .

I would also like to know how to force Evdo, I have the VZAccess Manager and I've never seen the "settings" option. I downloaded it from VZAM, maybe its an older version than what verzion has listed.

Jim,

I have tried the uninstall and reboot. I have tried this on a virgin laptop and desktop machine with no wireless installed. It appears the VZAM will not recognize the Alltel UM175 when it gets to the detect adapter part. I have even tried to manually install the Vzw UM175 drivers first and then the VZAM. VZAM will launch but it says device not inserted. I also tried to install the Alltel UM175 driver without the quick link mobile, and then the VZAM. Still no luck...Any more ideas on this? Would be great to lock HDR.

Thanks
BUC

Alltel must have crippled that function in the modem. If you want to try your luck with some AT commands I have a file that lists them for CDMA modems here:

I tried this as well with an Alltel UM175 without any Success.
My sppeds have been in the crapper for about a week now with VZW. I called and got nasty with the VZW folks and told them I was cancelling all 6 lines and going with another carrier.
They are sending me a VZW UM 175 on Monday to try. This should allow me to lock in the HDR Mode. They wanted to send me another Alltel UM175, but I said no, if I am paying a VZW bill, I want a VZW card. This will not change my plan or extend any contracts, so I thought I would give it a try.
If the speeds don't get back to what I am use to, I will be moving on to another option. $60 a month for speeds just above dial up doesn't work for me.

Yea, I could never get it to work, even issuing AT commands to the modem. I hate to take a VZW UM175 modem, because I was told my terms would change to VZW with a new device or warranty changeout, which includes the 5 GB cap. Make sure you don't get nailed with VZ terms by accepting a VZ modem instead of an Alltel one!
