Hi,
I am looking for a EVDO capable cell phone that will work with Verizon and hook up via bluetooth or usb (firewire) cable to my Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.3 powerbook. Does anyone have some suggestions on a midline cellular? (I don't want the card as I've a whole family that uses dls and a card won't serve we as well, because of that).
Thank you |

I too have dreams of cheating the MAN! Please keep us tuned as to the response of this wild dream. After all the 6600 is a blueTooth device and everything speaks bluetooh now so what's the big deal?

Dear Mac Sprint Users
Is it possible to use my USB connection to my Blade (mm-a490) in order to access the evdo system with my PowerBook? |

Should be. I have the Blade, though mine is the A-900. I have the $39.95 unlimited data plan (includes Power Vision). As per the Sprint Tech I spoke with today, I ignored the various "How To" sites and left out the username and password fields. Just entered #777 for the phone number.
I haven't used the USB that came with the phone yet, I only used the Bluetooth connection with my 12" Powerbook running Tiger. Paired them up, set up the connection, hit connect and was online instantly!
The Bluetooth slows things down but the web was still extremely usable and running the Java test at DSLReports.com resulted in 169kb down/100kb up.
I'll play with it tethered tomorrow and post a full report on here. |

I just found out that Verizon has okayed the use of the Motorola e815 as a tethered device with a computer to access their broadband network. From them you need to purchase the data plan at $50 a month.
Beyond that, what is required is a USB data cable and the connection software. Of course it seems that the software is currently not available. Smith Micro makes QuickLinkMobile for Mac but the e815 is not supported. They do support the v710, which is very similar, so who knows.
Meanwhile does anyone know a way to make the connection work for Mac's now that Verizon has okayed tethered operation?
