My two years are up.... Should I upgrade the modem from the Verizon Wireless UM150 that I have, are there any advantages?

Just a thought here, you don't have to sign a new contract just b/c your old one is done. If you continue to use the service without a contract they will bill you each month just as they have for the past 2 yrs.

Do you have anything to lose by signing a new contract for an upgrade? Do you have a 5 gig cap on your usage. If you sign a new contract you WILL have.

If your old modem is causing problems and you need to get a new modem consider buying one outroght and doing an ESN swap.

In your place I woud call the 3Gstore, they would be happy to explain your options and if you stand to lose or gain if you get a new contract. They can also advise you on which modem to get.

If you do sign a new contract give serious consideration to purchasing from the 3Gstore. The modem can be preactivated by them and you will get MUCH BETTER tech suport.

Good Luck

Didn't even think about that... Yes I am grandfathered in with the unlimited usage....

It's not causing me any problems, just wondered if the modems are better now in anyway than they were 2 years ago...

Bringing an old topic back!

Verizon claims that my grandfathered plan won't change if I use the new every two to get a new modem...

Question, is there any reason I should upgrade from a UM150 to a USB760?

The UM150 is working fine in the MBR1000.....

Would switching to a USB760 buy me anything???

if you mean performance-wise... not likely. they are both Rev-A.

Yes, I meant performance wise.... It's free with the new every 2, so I just wasn't sure if it would buy me anything, anywhere......

My nephew broke his UM150 and they are getting the USB760, and it just got me to thinking, should I, or shouldn't I!!!!

I am grandfathered in also and I was wondering if Verizon ever throttled down your speed when you went over 5 gig?

I recently started going over 5 gig, ( close to 7 this month) and still have the same speed.

I thought I heard when I got this two years ago that if you went over the 5 gig unlimited they would slow you down.

Never been throttled that I can tell.

I have an unlimited Verizon account that was transfered from Alltel.

I have been as high as 20 gig in a month and never noticed and throttling, normal usage is about 12 gig a month have never been throttled that I know of since Verizon took over back in October 09.

I just "upgraded" to a umw190 from a usb727 with my free every 2 with Verizon. I ALMOST activated it, but decided to search this site just in case there were problems with it and the plan, Glad I did. I was grandfathered with the Unlimited plan and found out from here and speaking to 3 separate folks at Verizon that I would indeed get kicked over to their current plan, ie 5GB cap. EVEN THOUGH when I selected the modem online it clearly stated that it was compatible with my current plan. WOW!!! talk about BS. One of the techs said that if I got any kind of discount on a Verizon piece of equipment (through Verizon) it would change my plan.
Hmm, we have had a GREAT cell phone plan for 10 years (3,000 anytime minutes and unlimited Sprint to Sprint for $79.00). Have used the new every 2 with them and STILL kept the same grandfathered plan.
Anyhoo, I am sending the card back to Verizon and getting a USB760 (more compatible with my Cradlepoint routers) though 3Gstore.

Any time you take advantage of a true upgrade (where Verizon gives you a cheap/free modem in exchange for extending your contract by another 2 years), you will almost certainly be put on the new terms of service.

3Gstore can help you avoid this, though - give us a call if you need to upgrade and want to keep your unlimited status!
