for the last couple months I've been having alot of trouble with my usb 727 disconnecting and powering down on my laptop. often it would power back up at first but now I have to unplug it and plug it back in. I've had it about a year and a few months or so. it's plugged directly into my dell laptop usb port. no routers...hope it's not going bad....... _________________ Keven |

| FWIW - Mine has been doing it for years. I can't pinpoint what leads up to it - it just power's down. I have a feeling it has to do with the Power supplied via the USB hub - just don't know for sure... |

how often does yours do it? mine does it bout every couple hours alot of the time. sometimes it might not do it for 3 or4 or maybe 5. but if i'm using it, it'll probably power down bout once an hour on average. _________________ Keven |

When I'm at home - it only does it once a week or so. But right now I'm up in PA using my LapTop and it drops once or twice a day (just dropped). That is why I figure it has something to do with the USB power. When I use my LapTop up here in PA - I have about 10 feet of USB Cable plugged into a Yagi to get a decent signal. |

How about using one of those 2 into 1 USB cables? I think it effectively doubles the power of the USB port.

Actually, my Yagi has a 3 foot cable with the Antenna plug. I plug that into the card and then the USB cable that runs back to my Laptop. So, I really can't hook it up any other way. |

just wonder why it's powering down, that's the part that confuses me. my friend also has verizon broadband and she lives bout an hour away and hers will disconnect several times an hour and has been doing that for 8 or 9 months now but hers doesn't power down like mine. the disconnecting isn't TOO bad, but the powering down thing is what worries me. thinking my laptop or my modem is messed up and I'm gonna have to spend money I don't have right now lol. _________________ Keven |

I had the same problem with a 720. It began after a Verizon firmware update. Verizon TS was unable to find the problem and suggested I upgrade to a USB760, which I did. The 760 exhibited the same problem; but, I then discovered a set-up issue.
In Windows XP, click on Start, Control Panel, Phone and Modem and the Modems Tab. Find your modem (e.g. Novatel Wireless Modem) and highlight it. Click Properties, then the Power Management Tab. There you should see a check box that allows the computer to turn off the modem to save power. Mine was checked. I unchecked it and the 760 has not shut off on its own since.
Give it a try. |
