Jesuchristo...
In KPPP? YOU HAVE TO SAY OK ON THE EDIT MODEM PAGE, AND GO BACK IN TO DO THE TEST; if you change ports, it does not switch.
Silly programmers, *real* desktop programming is for adults. <sigh> |

SUCCESS.
Once you get all the other crap out of the way, it does finally work. DSLreports only tells me 4-500kbps, but Speakeasy Atlanta says 2.1Mbps down, and 380-400 up.
That's plenty for me. :-)
You are now free to move about the Internet.
And so am I. |

Well, *I'm* mortally embarassed...
The Sprint PDF guide I linked above? It has an entire page on the "unmount the drive, idiot" approach, which somhow (maybe because they don't mention it at the right place, where it matters; maybe because I'm a dunce) I missed entirely.
Oops. :-} |

And as a final followup, cause I upgraded my kernel and lost the ttyUSB handling, check out this post:
http://www.mepislovers.org/forums/archive/index.php?t-20862.html
which says to put this:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idProduct}=="0x0025", SYSFS{idVendor}=="0x1199", RUN+="/sbin/modprobe usbserial vendor=0x1199 product=0x0025
into a file in /etc/udev/rules.d, and that works. modify the USB codes to taste. My error was adding it to an *existing* file; apparently it was overwritten by *some* upgrade, whether the kernel package, or an associated one. Oops. |
