|

| It dawned on me last night that the slow speeds started right around the time that digital broadcast TV went live. Any possibility that's contributing to this issue? I don't know anything about how the new digital TV works so have no idea if it's a plausible theory. |

No Digital TV is on a different spectrum, I believe 806 mhz the slow downs can be due to traffic congestion. Too many users not enough tower capacity.
On a different side note:
Good News as well for AT&T customers, Much of AT&T's poorer performance has been attributed by the company to its dependence on 1,900MHz wireless for 3G. The higher frequency offers less bandwidth and has a harder time reaching indoors or coping with interference; a high ratio of iPhone users has compounded the issue by frequently exploiting the network. AT&T should move its most important service areas, including New York and San Francisco, to the much better-behaved 850MHz band within several months.

I agree with Dario. I think they are getting more users by the day and not upgrading the system fast enough. My Sprint EV-DO service went from >1.1 Mbps consistently to <500bps almost overnight back in January 2009. Currently, speeds above 500bps are rare and far in between. |

| We live in a rural area. There aren't enough kids out here to account for the slow downs. It may not be because of the digital TV, but it's not network overload either. The fastest I've been able to get is around 300 Kbps (and that is RARE). I used to routinely get between 800 and 1200 Kbps. The 'average' that I'm running right now is literally LESS than 100 Kbps. |
