Does anyone know if I can tether an iPhone 3G (or iPhone 3GS) to one of the CradlePoint routers?
Being able to hook my iPhone to my MBR1000 or PHS300 would really be great. |

we've already tried iPhone 3G (not 3G S) and it did not work.
we've already suggested to Cradlepoint that it would be a good idea to support iPhone tethering, and we're sure they'll have it at some point in the future. the iPhone is to big a deal to ignore.
every iPhone owner who would like to see cradlepoint support their device should send their request for iPhone tethering support to:
suggestions@cradlepoint.com

I just looked into this for my mother.
The 3.0 firmware for iPhone FINALLY supports tethering. The AT&T plans for it aren't available yet though. Once AT&T has their tethering plan for iPhone available, it wouldn't surprise me to see router makers start supporting it.

The second that they do will be when I place an order for a Cradlepoint. My EVDO connection has been utterly craptastic the past few weeks while 3G has been excellent. I have hacked in tethering support but have been holding off lest I end up with a bajillion dollars in "Don't hack your data plan" charges. _________________ --Larry |

Sorry to be pedantic, but above replies said that they tried PHS300 with the iPhone and it did not work. I want to be sure... was that iPhone enabled for tethering, does tethering OK with a PC but not the PHS300? Or was that just an iPhone 3G without tethering enabled (that is, using the iPhone 3.0 software and tethering enabled as it is in some places around the world). Thanks for any guidance. _________________ Alan |

We have tried the CradlePoint routers with the current shipping versions and they do not support the iPhone in tethering mode.
We think this will be a HUGE deal for CradlePoint and we think it would be a great idea for CradlePoint to sell tons more routers.
Keep an eye on this thread - as if this is ever supported - we will make a big deal about it on our sites _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Thank you for the quick reply. I'll keep watching. Until then I am stuck tethering by USB, which isnt so bad. But the PHS300 looks really cool and I want one! _________________ Alan |

Thanks again for the quick reply. I have just sent the email to Cradlepoint, and I hope that once tethering is allowed by AT&T in the USA, that they will make the necessary software changes to the PHS300 to support the iPhone. I fully agree that sales should skyrocket! I live outside the USA (already tethering), and am anxious to get a PHS300. _________________ Alan |

Seems to be that AT&T is a bit flaky on weather or not they are going to allow tethering.
Arguably they would be the most ideal since they have more iPhones than any other carrier, but there may be hope others will enable it too, and that might help drive the demand for tethering like other phones do with CradlePoint. |

Reading the Cradlepoint website, you would think they care about customers. I have sent them several emails asking a simple question about tethering the iphone, and they havent responded at all. In my experience, this is probably indicative of their level of (or LACK OF) customer service once you buy a product. The least they could do is tell me "we are investigating the iPhone and PHS300" or some such decent, non-committal reply. Instead they are ignoring my simple question. I have no confidence as a consumer in this company. I am just as happy that the PHS300 does NOT support a tethering iphone 3.0, so now I am not the least bit tempted to buy from this company that does not care about its customer base. _________________ Alan |

If you sent an email to the suggestions@cradlepoint email address - do not expect a reply - it is only used for tallying suggestions that customers are requesting.
Tethering to the iPhone is NOT a current feature (that is the purpose of this thread), so I wouldn't expect much of a response sending emails to the suggestion address. See CradlePoint's web site for different contacts, OR just post your question here. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Thank you for the reply. To be complete, I did send to suggestions, but I also sent to their tech support which resulted in an automatic reply that I should hear in 24hrs. After posting here i finally heard from tech suppor that it doesn't work. Their initial apparent lack of interest in my query remains disturbing as a sign of future "customer service". _________________ Alan |

Alan,
Just to be fair to CradlePoint, I don't know of any hardware company that will share what products/features/new items that they may (or may not) be working on.
Hardware companies usually are working on many different projects and not all projects come to market.
Also, I don't think it would be smart for companies to publicly state everything they are working on - not smart for your competitors to know.
BTW, CradlePoint does host a beta forum up here on EVDOforums and there is a group of people that get to "play" with new versions and features, but part of the rules of the beta forum, are that you cannot publicly discuss the new features. My suggestion, would be to ask nicely to be part of the forums vs. screaming at them on forums. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |
