I'm a newbie to EVDO (and a long-suffering HughesNet customer). I recently purchased the CDU-680 from Cellular South with an unlimited data plan. Cellular South would not recommend a specific brand of router which would be compatible with my modem because they don't officially support the use of routers with their service. I browsed through the EVDO forums and decided to try the MBR-1000 because it seemed to have a wide range of compatibility.
I am in a 3G coverage area, and the CDU-680 works great with my laptop and with both desktops. However, when plugged ino the MBR-1000, the modem cannot find a carrier. According to the router's LEDs, the modem is recognized and it attempts to make a connection. The MBR-1000's modem diagnostic screen says the carrier status is Down. Cradlepoint support cannot help because Cellular South is not one of their supported carriers. Their suggested firmware upgrade did not solve the problem.
Are there any settings I can change in the MBR's configuration screens that might make this router/modem combination work, or is this a case of this modem just is not compatible with this router? And if so, are there any Cellular South customers perusing these forums who might know the magical CDU-680/router combination that will work with Cellular South service? |

rch167,
a couple questions:
a) what firmware are you running on the MBR1K?
b) what does the Status->Logs say? (please post if possible)
c) when running the CDU680 on the PC does it use connection manager software? Did Cellular South give you a username/password combination to use at all? |

I'm using that combination (MBR-1000, CDU-680, Cellular South) and it works great. Try these settings in the MBR-1000:
Basic..WAN..Cellular Modem PPP Authentication
Modem Interface: USB1 or USB2 (wherever the CMOTECH device is)
Username: [MIN]@modem.cs3g.com
Password: cs3g
Authentication Protocol: PAP
Save Settings
replace [MIN] by the 10-digit MIN number assigned to your device. This is not the 10-digit phone number CSouth uses for billing. I had to get this from the Franklin Connection Manager software.
Modem..Settings..Modem Specific Settings
Modem Interface: USB1 or USB2 as above
AT Dial Script:
ATZ
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ATDT#777
Save Settings
I think that's all that was provider-specific... Good luck |
