Very cool plug in (then again I work with Mike so free plug!)
danielti - I can't PM you directly so I aplogize to everyone for taking this thread off pace but where did you pick your Novatel Wireless MIFI 2352? Do you have the GSM version with SIM card? I picked up a Sprint 2200 but I do not wish to cancel my ATT contract and I do travel to Asia.

| Any way to change from the default IP address? I changed the address of the MiFi admin page so it wouldn't conflict with Linksys routers. |

The next version we are working on you will be able to choose your IP address, and which Mifi (Sprint, Verizon, GSM, etc.) in settings of the gadget.
In the mean time, if you want to crack open the .gadget file (it is really a zip) and simply edit the htm file with a text editor, you can change the IP address right there.
Thanks,
Mike |

Thanks, Mike. I rarely use the Sidebar and had to Google to find the path for the files. This is what I wound up with after changing the IP address:
It seems pretty handy and I will probably use it to monitor the MiFi when I'm using it on battery power. As I mentioned, I'd prefer to have it the same width as standard Sidebar gadgets.
BTW, I'm using MiFiStatus-1.1.0.0-TEST |

Yah.. we targeted the size to match gadgets that are dragged off of the sidebar, since we are using Windows 7 which doesn't really have a sidebar (gadgets just float). We may work on a condensed size when it is attached to the sidebar.
Thanks for the feedback!

With some clever coding, you could display exactly what geographic location the Sprint Mifi is in the gadget by looking up info from google or microsoft by sending GPS coordinates coming from the Mifi; or at the least, simply display the GPS information; which should be relatively easy to do.
On a slightly related topic, Ive actually been looking for a way to grab the GPS data via html (to be used by Google Virtual Earth). |

| Who cares about Verizon. Sprint firmware is light years ahead of what's loaded on VZW. |

| I tried it out on a Vista (x86) system. It looks like about half of the time it sees the MiFi. At that point the GUI distorts (battery and Sig. strength indicator show up as red "X"s in rectangular boxes). The other half of the time it just displays "No MiFi Detected" during an active connection. |

| Just an FYI - I used it to create a dashboard widget in Mac OS too. It works great. Switched to admin mode, dragged it out of dashboard, and now I have a desktop widget that monitors my MiFi connectivity. |
