|
|
I need something more robust than my MBR1000. It maxes out at 32 connections. I need more for my purpose of having the EVDO router as an alternative/fallback gateway on our company's network. We have about 80 nodes on this network and the MBR1000 will error out every other day with a 'Max Connections Reached' message. Solution is to reboot the thing.
I don't even really a WiFi side to the router as I have it turned off anyway - the router will just connect via Ethernet to our core switch.
Any ideas?
TIA!! |

Sonicwall TZ190 or a Cisco 1841 w/ HWIC-3G card.
The Sonicwalls are nice and can support two WAN connections plus the 3G failover. Be mindful of the supported 3G cards on the Sonicwall, however. There are NO Alltel cards, two or three verizon, and a handful of Sprints & AT&T. You can find them on ebay sometimes for $300-400. Retail is a bit higher.
Cisco is of course the gold standard in networking. But an 1841 will probably set you back about $700 on ebay and the HWIC card another $300-500. If you aren't a network engineer, the Cisco isn't the most intuitive thing to configure but it is also the most powerful.
Avoid the Linksys or the Kyocera options. Those are consumer products and cause you more problems than they ever solve. |

I have demoed all the Digi boxes read the fine print on those after 50megs they charge an insane amount and there are no other plans for them that's with Verizon though. AT&T or Sprint could be different.
They are hardcore boxes though with built in connectivity for VPN connections. |

| Just curious...do any of these boxes mentioned above have the capability to increase throughput of the WAN card? The reason I ask is that I've heard rumblings of equipment that can push the data rates higher towards the EVDO max of 3.1Fwd/1.8Rev. |

I can't imagine a scenario where the upper limit on your speeds would be affected by anything other than limitations imposed by the carrier such as tower site bandwidth and packet shaping. |

| I was wondering the opposite, whether there was any devices which you could program to throttle back on your services when you moved to 3g. I know you can implement QOS rules, etc., but do any routers let you create more aggressive rules when you are running on a backup? |
