I was just curious if anyone knew what channels to go through to recommend a cell tower to sprint. I use sprint for my evdo and the tower that feeds me is 3+ miles away over a hill or two with trees and I have a tough time with signal strength and speeds.
On their coverage map, there is a huge gap right around where I live (I'm just on the fringe of their broadband coverage map). Right in the middle of this gap, there is a cell tower that t-mobile uses. My voice service is through t-mobile. It would be great if sprint also decided to use that tower. I'd probably switch my voice service over if that happened and I know quite a number of other people in that 'blank' spot that would too.
Anyway, probably just a pipe dream, but was wondering if anyone knew how to go about doing that. |

That's an interesting question. There may not be any formal way to place a request. At ~$200K for site acquisition, rights-of-way, construction and then who-knows-what for continuing operating expense maybe you and $250,000/($39/month*24 months ) = 267 of your neighbors could each argue that "if Sprint builds it, they will come" and Sprint will break even and be in the black after only two years.
Seriously though, I suspect network expansion decisions are some kind of complex algorithm, that considers, cost, coverage, competition, site availability, etc. that gets run on a computer that few people understand.
I too would be interested if someone on here has a simpler and more useful answer.

I can tell that its not impossible, Verizon Wireless gave the Boeing plant in Washington its own cell tower but then again their monthly bill is over $100K a month.
