|
|
Recently my 2 yr plan w/ Verizon ran out and it was time to upgrade. I got the 8330. To my understanding it is an EVDO Rev0 device and I absolutely LOVE it when I have service...
I also recently moved to a new apartment. In this apartment I get virtually no EVDO and almost no RSSI(by doing an ALT NMLL i can see the dB levels ~-98-104)
If i step outside onto my balcony, i get ~-94-98 dB but more importantly i get EVDO.
I was thinking of purchasing a zBoost but after a little reading saw that it did not amplify the signal but just repeat it. After a little more reading i saw that the Wilson SignalBoost Mobile Professional Amplifier - 801241 infact does amplify the cell tower signal. Since it is dual band, it should boost my EVDO signal as well so that I can get it inside my apartment.
Is this a sound idea? I'd hate to purchase something only for it not to work and then have to fuss w/ returns and all. Would an antenna such as the Indoor/Outdoor Dual-Band Directional Panel Antenna - 301135 work better with the wilson? Is it even necessary?
Will a zBoost work just fine?
Any hints/tips or simple "you're an idiot, do this" comments will definately suffice.
Thanks
on a side note, I would have posted links to the 3gstore for the Wilson and the antenna but forums dont allow new ppl to post links (probably for good reasons but hinders ppl like me... lol ) |

You can call the 3Gstore for Pre-Sales help. This is one of the best things about them and also the support after the sale is great.

I probably will contact them, but I'd like to hear from some ppl on the forum b4 I automatically take the koolaid from a "pre-sales" person whom ultimately really is trying to sell me their product.
I'm not trying to sound sarcastic or snotty but anyone have experiences they'd like to share regarding this topic? |

for most people that isn't enough range.
a better option is the signalboost dt -- which would provide 2 to 12 ft of wireless amplified signal area around the indoor amp. |
ahhh im glad i didnt just jump right in. After following that link and looking at the review, is see the 1-4 ft range now. Didnt b4.
The DT looks interesting, do you have any personal experience with it? Any recommendations possibly besides using a Wilson Amp? |

Yes they are trying to sell you something, it is there job. But it is also their job to provide service and they know their products and can help you to pick the right solution to your problem.
BTW Alex is one of the ppl you might talk to if you call. He uses the products they sell and tests / reveiws new products as the come out.
Yes it would be great if someone with the same equipment as you are consisering would chime in, but not everybody is on here every day.
Good Luck. |

its not really about risk so much as annoyance towards the returning process. I don't get a chance to make it to the post office b4 it closes most days... so to not have to go through that, i'd like to get an idea of available products b4 i purchase them.
Thank you for the input so far. After looking at competitors products, the DT is looking more and more attractive |

it would be my choice for an apartment because the receiving antenna has several mounting options, including just suction cup to a window or a sliding glass door.
like so:

you stated the DT would possibly extend the signal 2-12ft from the indoor ant, i am assuming that the strength of the original signal is basically what determines that output?
would replacing the receiving antenna with the following one help at all?

yes, signal at donor is primary thing that affects interior range.
to improve reception... not that exact panel... there is a newer version of that panel antenna that uses same 75ohm connector as the DT... we'll be selling it at some point in near future. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas/Routers/Amps :: Verizon EVDO :: Sprint EVDO :: Why Buy from 3Gstore? |
