I have read some of the performance tweaks and I need some advice/help. Last night I was playing on xbox live (I still have Unlimited Sprint EVDO) through my macbook. Works great, but I have had this happen before the experience, well pardon my French, goes to sh*t. I kept wondering what was going on and then I did ping test, around 1000ms and then later it went back to 100 to 150ms and playable but I going to bed then. I had great signal but poor latency. Do I need to change the HA settings? I can and really want to get an antenna, but don't know which is best. Some advice from others that have battled latency spikes would be nice.
EDIT: I have the U727 and latest Sprint Smartview software. I see some views, nobody? Uh oh.... |

I have a similar issue, but mine is with Verizon EVDO. Although service was great last year, the jitter increased at about the same time that the speeds increased this year. My jitter readings, which measure changes in latency, are often in the thousands of ms (that is, multiple seconds) on both up and down links. Although speeds are great (over 2 Mb/s down, 0.4 Mb/s up), real-time apps (VoIP, video, music, etc.) are unbearably bad. I've tried many things including calls to Verizon, external antennas, advanced modem settings and even custom PRL tweaks, but the only thing that temporarily solved it was using a completely different carrier in my area (AT&T/Cingular's HSPA). My main suspects at this point are 1) a neighbor may have installed one of those stand-alone cellular access points that my modem gets fooled into thinking is a real cell tower; or 2) some sort of carrier network issue at or beyond the tower. I put in one last call to Verizon yesterday, but may soon suspend service and resort to Cingular for a few months and hope the real issue gets resolved in the meantime.
I was hoping to get my Verizon card to roam onto a Sprint tower, even though its farther from me, to see if that would help. Unfortunately, I cannot get it to connect to Sprint even when parked right at the Sprint tower. It looks like it might not be possible for a Verizon customer to roam on Sprint, but I may try once more to tweak the PRL and retest. Any help or advice appreciated. _________________ AC595, WRT54G3G |
