hello
with all of the problems with the wireless disconnecting all the time i bought a lynksys wrg54gs wireless router.
i have a few different questions.
first i will try to describe my setup the best i can.
two desktops eithernet and two laptops wireless.
home networked with one unpnp ip camera,3 directv dvr's,traversiy running on all computers and also using orb .
i have things working crusing the net and i do see networked devices but not all of them.
so i want to start from scratch on the proper cabling first.
do i run one eithernet cable from the kr1 to the internet input of the lynksys and then connect all of my devices to the lynksys ports 1,2,3 and 4?
the next question is about the ip address on the lynksys 192.168.1.1
is this ok if my kr1 is 192.168.0.21.
sub net masks are the same.
255.255,255.0
i dont quite understand if the ip address is an issue or if the dhcp should be on or off.
i know this is a lot but basicly i was working good and want to install a wireless device that stays connected.
all of my device are 192.168.0.xx except the lynksys which is 192.168.1.1
thank you mike |

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address.
Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.
Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.
Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected! |
