It's here....

The Novatel MiFi 2200 Personal Hotspot for SPRINT is now available from 3Gstore!

Our price with a NEW 2-year Sprint contract is just $59.99 (after rebate). If you are UPGRADING, your price may vary depending on how far into your contract you are.

We also have the Sprint MiFi available with NO CONTRACT (if you want to upgrade but don't want to change your contract) for $299.99

Check out our Sprint MiFi Hands On Review

Order the Sprint MiFi with 2-year contract (new or upgrade) from 3Gstore

Order the Sprint MiFi with no contract

Does it do GPS?

(or is there any other list of differences between it and the Verizon version?).

yes, it supports sprint's "location based services" that plot nearby banks/restaurants/shopping/etc on your choice of browser-based mapping like google/yahoo -- but no, the KML data does not appear to be remotely accessible.

we're working on our sprint mifi review that will contrast the differences. there are a few, but they aren't really major diffs.

-- the sprint mifi ships as wide open hotspot by default and strongly recommends wireless encryption during wizard (WEP is offered by default)

-- sprint mifi web admin can do PRL and firmware updates on demand vs. verizon vzam only (not web admin)

-- sprint mifi's GUI does NOT provide any way to view RSSI

-- sprint mifi provides more detailed power management: options for plugged in and while on battery.

probably still more than that. watch for the review.

Hi,

I am confused about data plans for the Mifi 2200 and am hoping you folks can clear up my confusion.

I am a Sprint customer with two plans; Everything Data 1500 share plan for my Blackberry Curve and a Mobile Broadband data plan for my Novatel U720 usb device.

If I buy a Mifi 2200, which plan would it work with.

Ideally, I'd love for it to work with my Everything Data 1500 plan so that I could cancel the extra data plan I have for my U720.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Dave

buy the sprint mifi without a contract for $299.99 and you can use it in place of the U720.

the mifi cannot be used with the BB curve's data plan.

Alex, thanks for the data plan response.

I've always gotten great support from your firm and I look forward to placing an order for the mifi to replace my cradlepoint router which I purchased from 3gstore.

If using the mifi away from an ac outlet and the mifi's battery becomes low, is it possible for the mifi to receive it's electrical power from the laptop's usb port?

Thanks,

Dave

Dave, you can indeed charge the Sprint MiFi via USB port... but

-- you need to get your own micro-usb cable because it doesnt come with one.

-- the mifi will NOT operate as a wifi hotspot while connected to usb.

-- you CAN use latest Sprint U760 SmartView software to tether the connected computer, but you have to download software yourself as it does not ship with software.

convenient, huh?

well... at least you know it up front. instead of finding out the hard way.

thanks for being a 3gstore.com customer!

Alex,

I have a U720 (with Cradlepoint PHS from 3GStore) with expired 2-year grandfathered unlimited Sprint contract (month-to-month now).
If I upgrade the U720 to the MiFi, will the 2-year contract automatically change to 5GB cap with overage?

1. Does the gps thing work via a wifi connection, or only tethered? Is it a web page

(edit - The following is probably moot since you have both an extended external battery and a car adapter available)

2. If you have a USB power/charge only adapter, does it disable the wifi? (I.e. something that does not enumerate USB devices).

I have had mine since last week, and I love it! It stays in my shirt pocket pretty much all the time, which is amazing considering the PHS300/Compass 597 combo I was using would only fit in cargo pant pockets Smile

The Novatel drivers are on the device, and they are loaded automatically when you plug in to a Windows PC. It sets it up so it is seen as a GPS and a modem by the computer. From there, I loaded the latest Sprint connection software, and it works great. But the main use is for WiFi...

I hope Cradlepoint can add these devices to their router firmware, that would be great for those of us that have one (or two!) of their routers already.

1. Yes, it works via the web browser portal or tethered.

2. WiFi is only disabled on a true USB port. I am typing this as mine is plugged into a 12V car adapter using the charge/sync cable from my Treo 800.

yes, if you do anything with a 2yr contract, it automatically means 5GB/mo with overage charge.

only way to avoid overage charge is buy Sprint MiFi at full retail and ESN swap with u720.

I read on slashgear that Sprint has roaming charges built into your contract once you have gone over 300 mb whilst romaing. Is there a way to ensure the myfi doesn't roam?

Thanks for any info,
Guile

oops never mind .. didn't see the info about the Sprint PRl list ... verizon does not have roaming charges hence no prl list for their mifi.

Hmm what to choose .. unlimited roaming or gps functionality..

Can ESN swapping (Sprint) be done online ? If not, any advice to have this done by phone to ensure the old contract is not altered?

Also, how often can ESN swapping be done?
