we ESN swap online all the time, but have heard from some customers that the option simply does not exist on their web interface. we think it has to do with age of accounts. we don't know of a limit to ESN swapping.

Can you leave the Mifi plugged in to an AC charger all of the time ? Supposedly the manual says you are supposed to unplug it after it hits full charge, but that seems like a poor option if you just wanted to use this at home... Thoughts ?

Thanks !

Alex,

I have a U720 (with Cradlepoint PHS from 3GStore) with expired 2-year grandfathered unlimited Sprint contract (month-to-month now).
If I upgrade the U720 to the MiFi, will the 2-year contract automatically change to 5GB cap with overage?

yes, if you do anything with a 2yr contract, it automatically means 5GB/mo with overage charge.

only way to avoid overage charge is buy Sprint MiFi at full retail and ESN swap with u720.

Can ESN swapping (Sprint) be done online ? If not, any advice to have this done by phone to ensure the old contract is not altered?

Also, how often can ESN swapping be done?

Did you end up calling for the ESN swap? How did it go? I'm looking at the same scenario. Thanks!

I am still trying to decide whether to get a full-price Mifi and do ESN swap or to extend the contract and get a good discount (given the uncertainty of the ESN swap operation). Please let us know how it goes if you decide to do ESN swap.

ESN swaps are quick/easy/painless and can be done online.

When you do an ESN swap - it does not alter your contract, you are just swapping to a new device. As long as you are swapping like devices (e.g. mobile broadband to mobile broadband), it works flawlessly. You can swap as many times as you want each day - just remember - only one device can be active at any moment.

Michael,

I tried searching but did not find any option to swap the ESN online (by logging into sprint.com.)

When you say "online", do you mean an automated option where you key in the ESNs (similar to those on phones for other carriers), or you have to contact a Sprint support agent online?

I am familiar with swapping phone ESN for other carrier like Verizon but did not see that option for Sprint.

I would really appreciate a tip to do this online. Thanks in advance.

I keep seeing this repeated that if you do a new contract your terms will change. I can say that on my "grandfathered" data plan on a business account was extended last year and on my bill, on the web, and when I ask states unlimited.

YMMV

I understand Alex. And while there is no evidence on the internet (and those links which I provided are the only significant information regarding the Sprint business data package I found), the unlimited data plan for Sprint business customers does indeed exist. One reason why that information is not published on the internet could be because Sprint fears a rash of customers rushing to purchase business accounts. Regardless, Sprint business customers should consult their representative/agent from Sprint to discussion their options, including the unlimited data usage plan.

We have seen this same principle--that is, the lack of concise information regarding terms and conditions that protect the consumer--from companies like Verizon Wireless and Sprint PCS. Verizon marketed their supposedly unlimited data plan until enough outrage from customers forced their marketing department to pull that wording from advertisements. Sprint denies that grandfathered unlimited accounts exist however there are users on these forums who claim they have insane amounts of data throughput.

I suspect that those of us that signed up for business data plans under the "unlimited" plan, are left alone as long as we are "good" customers. Occasionally I go over the 5gb, but VERY rarely. Sprint gets north of $150 from me for a total of 5 lines so, I guess they don't want to lose me.

I can also vouch for the existence of the unlimited Sprint Data Connection Plan. I have 4 of these on my account and one of them used 23GB last month (and is routinely around 10-12), yet the bill was the same $37.50 per line after discount.
