Much Appreciation for the posting of this solution for using WIFI while Tethering the MIFI 2200 to a computer. I'm using the Sprint MIFI and it's working just fine for me.

I picked up my cable from Radio Shack - Gigaware USB-A Male to Micro USB-B Male Cable 26-1416. It was Reasonably priced. I downloaded the Verizon Access Manager @ http://www.vzam.net/ and installed it. The drivers for the MIFI 2200 are included in the installation.

So do you actually have the black Verizon MiFi, or the silver Sprint MiFi? I have been wanting to try this patch on my Sprint version...

Hello OrbitalComp - I have the Silver version that has the Sprint lable on it. So far no complaints on getting the above "tip of the week" solution to work using the previously noted steps taken.

I would like to be able to have a public facing address as before when using the U720 broadband adapter. A friend needed technical assistance and I wanted to do a NetMeeting session but couldn't since we both were using private addresses.

Also One thing I noticed with the Sprint MIFI is that the GPS seldom works. I've traveled cross country to the west coast from Chicago and was able to get an EVD0 Rev A signal 80% of the time. The rest of the time I was able to get the broadband lower speed hookup. But not once was I able to get a GPS connection. GPS is enabled and the Config file reflect this enabled status. What's strange is that I can get a GPS signal on my Blackberry phone no problem.

We just posted a "Tip of the Week" on how to enable WiFi and tethering:

How to Use WiFi AND Tether Your Verizon MiFi 2200 at the Same Time

UPDATE: 11/06/09 After this information was released, Novatel Wireless has corrected this in the configuration file and will no longer be configurable after a Verizon MiFi device has received it’s updates. According to our sources at Novatel Wireless, this oversight could become a potential safety issue in that when plugged into a USB port and running the modified configuration could cause damage to the computer it is operating on.

3GStore does not advise using this “hack” any longer for we will not be held responsible for bodily harm or any damage that may be caused to both your MiFi and computers.

Since the tip of the week seems to be not one that is "good" to use. I wonder how a USB 2.0 Y cable would work attached to the ipod cable that removes the data part. (A male x 2 to Mini B male x1)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812270226 (an example of the cable)

I have a few of these that came with the newer 500MB laptop external drive cases that give more power to my HDD.

I would give it a try and see what happens.

I'm sort of confused with the whole disable the USB teathering but whatever.

What happens if you plug it into a charger... USB from a wall adapter or Car plug? Does it goto sleep and if so does it wake up when some data request comes in?
