Hi, I have a G4 Powerbook running Tiger 10.4.11 and a Sierra 598U modem that don't seem to like each other. When I insert the 598 the mac sees the device well enough to detect the built in Sprint software and it installs cleanly from the log files I looked at. The OS X system profiler also shows a 598U plugged into a USB slot. However the Sprint software says No Device Detected and the connect button is greyed out. The OS X Network Configuration utility isn't helpful either because the device isn't listed in the ports list. I also downloaded the newest OS X version of the Sprint software (2.22.xxx) from their website and that didn't change anything. This smells a lot like a driver issue but I don't know where to start to fix it. BTW, this 598U works perfectly in my HP laptop running XP so I don't think it is a hardware issue.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.
Todd

It smells to *me* a lot like the same problem I'm having on Linux, detailed in the posting I made a few minutes ago.

I look forward to seeing what luck you have fixing it.

Yeah I got it working. I installed Leopard 10.5.7 and it started working perfectly. I have no idea why, sorry.

I have the same problem. I just brought an iMac because my Windows Laptop broke (power jack to be specific) and tired switching over the Sierra Wireless USB 598 and it had the same thing:

"No Wireless Device Detected"

but it uploaded all the stuff to download the program with but it just won't detect the device and it wont show up on "Network Preferences." I called the support line and they were no help. They sent me a new device and it did the same thing.

I have the OSX Tiger as well. I just brought the Leopard online for like $50. I'm just waiting for it to be delivered to see if it works like yours.
